Book Description
Dynamic test deflections have been duplicated by elastic theory using the Chevron N-layered computer program. Dynamic surface deflections obtained using the Road Rater have been used in conjunction with elastic theory to analyze pavement behavior. A procedure has been developed to use field measured Road Rater deflections to estimate the elastic moduli of the foundation material and to determine the equivalent thicknesses of new material which approximate the behavior of the structure. The estimated moduli and (or ) equivalent thicknesses may be used as inputs to design overlay thicknesses. An analysis of the deflection of the first three sensors of the Road rater also makes it possible to distinguish weaknesses in asphaltic concrete layers from weaknesses in the supporting foundation.

Road Rater Study
Author: Mary Rutherford
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Pavements
Languages : en
Pages : 168
Book Description
This study provides recommendations for using the Road Rater Model 400B and the PEDMOD (Pavement Evaluation and Design Model) program for pavement evaluation and design. In order to address seasonal variation in pavement response for pavement evaluation and design, thirty-six test sections were established in eight counties in Washington State. Road Rater deflection data was collected monthly on the test sections for a period of one year.

Pavement Deflection Evaluations
Author: R. Clark Graves
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Aggregates (Building materials)
Languages : en
Pages : 196
Book Description
In this study a procedure has been developed to evaluate the structural condition of pavements using Road Rater deflection measurements. These procedures compare actual field deflections with deflections calculated by the Chevron N-Layer linear elastic computer program. The results obtained from these procedures are the layer moduli of the pavement materials. Procedures have been developed for asphaltic concrete pavements and composite pavements, including broken and non-broken concrete layers. This report also contains a comparison of structural overlay determined using the results of the new procedure, with overlays calculated using results from the 2-3 Projected procedure currently used by the Pavement Management branch of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. A users manual from the computer programs developed during this study is included in the appendix of the report.
