Book Description
This book was written to be of assistance to those receiving the shattering news of a loved one entering or already in the throes of Alzheimers. When the sad reality of my husbands diagnosis was confirmed, I searched for a book to help me in the day-to-day routine to just get by. I found books with reams of statistics and warnings of terminal certainty but nothing helpful for coping on a daily basis. Im sharing here a few of the coping mechanisms that were helpful to me. Each caregiver will experience obstacles unique to their loved one. Hopefully, some of my techniques will be of help on this sad journey. There are over five million people in the U.S. currently living with Alzheimers. That number is expected to more than double by 2050. This is a very scary statistic indeed. There is a small measure of comfort in knowing you are not alone. My hope is that this book will also give a measure of comfort.

In the Land of Forgetfulness

In the Land of Forgetfulness PDF Author: Wayne A. Ewing
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN:
Category : Health & Fitness
Languages : en
Pages : 146

Book Description
In the Land of Forgetfulness meditatively reflects on dementia caregiving territory previously unexplored: the uncanny parallel of the language used to describe dementia from the outside looking in with the language used by contemplatives and mystics to describe their spiritual formation from the inside looking outward. The quiet passages are written in the interests of providing personal and professional dementia caregivers both solace and resource for the arduous, exhausting, and wearying journey with the Beloved into and through the land of forgetfulness. The spiritually curious will also find the meditations to be provocative and sustaining. The book is a companion volume to the author's previous multi-award-winning collection of reflections, Tears in God's Bottle.

Book Description
"In the midst of our suffering we need a wake-up call to the truth that God’s steadfast love never ceases.” —Dave Furman, Senior Pastor, Redeemer Church of Dubai; author, Being There and Kiss the Wave Are you feeling despondent, depressed, or discouraged? When we encounter severe trials and suffering, we are often tempted to think that our situation is somehow out of God’s hands. In these dark times, God seems silent, and we feel isolated, confused, and alone. Everyone experiences suffering; even the biblical writers expressed anguish at times. This emotion is clearly captured in the Psalms. Through these brief meditations on Psalms 88 and 89, Ligon Duncan shows us how to respond to our own suffering with the assurance of our heavenly Father’s mercy, which sustains us even in the darkest circumstances.

Second Forgetting

Second Forgetting PDF Author: Dr. Benjamin T. Mast
Publisher: Zondervan
ISBN: 031051388X
Category : Health & Fitness
Languages : en
Pages : 182

Book Description
There is hope in Alzheimer's disease, but it isn't where most people look for it... Any form of dementia is terrifying and lonely for both the one suffering it and for those close to them. How do our relationships with those we love change with loss of memory or clarity of thought? What happens to our relationship with God? For those suffering from early-stage Alzheimer's, for their friends and family, community and church, this book will help you understand the disease itself, how to love and care for those affected by it, and how to see the hope that's greater than it: we may forget, but God always remembers. With pastoral tenderness and gospel confidence, Dr. Benjamin Mast shares his expertise on the subject and displays the power of the gospel that remains intact even when memory fades. Second Forgetting provides: Up-to-date answers to common questions about the disease and its effect on personal identity and faith. Personal stories of those affected and the loved ones who care for them and what their experiences were like—where they found hope and how they most needed support. Practical suggestions for how the church can come alongside families and those struggling or hurting. When a person is diagnosed with Alzheimer's, they face great uncertainty, knowing that they can expect to live their remaining years with increasing confusion and progressively greater reliance upon other people to care for them. Dr. Mast will help you see how Alzheimer's disease cannot have the final say on God's unforgotten children.
