Solid State NMR Spectroscopy

Solid State NMR Spectroscopy PDF Author: Melinda J. Duer
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 0470999381
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 592

Book Description
This book is for those familiar with solution-state NMR who are encountering solid-state NMR for the first time. It presents the current understanding and applications of solid-state NMR with a rigorous but readable approach, making it easy for someone who merely wishes to gain an overall impression of the subject without details. This dual requirement is met through careful construction of the material within each chapter. The book is divided into two parts: "Fundamentals" and "Further Applications." The section on Fundamentals contains relatively long chapters that deal with the basic theory and practice of solid-state NMR. The essential differences and extra scope of solid-state NMR over solution-state is dealt with in an introductory chapter. The basic techniques that all chapters rely on are collected into a second chapter to avoid unnecessary repetition later. Remaining chapters in the "Fundamentals" part deal with the major areas of solid-state NMR which all solid-state NMR spectroscopists should know about. Each begins with an overview of the topic that puts the chapter in context. The basic principles upon which the techniques in the chapter rely are explained in a separate section. Each of these chapters exemplifies the principles and techniques with the applications most commonly found in current practice. The "Further Applications" section contains a series of shorter chapters which describe the NMR techniques used in other, more specific areas. The basic principles upon which these techniques rely will be expounded only if not already in the Fundamentals part.

Organized Assemblies of Calix [4] Arenes in the Solid State

Organized Assemblies of Calix [4] Arenes in the Solid State PDF Author: Eric Elisabeth
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Calixarenes
Languages : en
Pages : 978

Book Description
Over the past thirty years synthetic receptor molecules have contributed heavily to the development of supramolecular chemistry because of their ability to bind molecular substrates by means of various intermolecular forces. Among these receptors, calixarenes have received particular attention. The cone conformation of calixarenes presents a preorganized platform that can act as a host for small substrate molecules, which may be neutral or charged. This thesis describes different approaches for the construction of organized assemblies involving derivatives of calix[4]arenes, via a self-assembly process. In this effort, 1- and 2-dimensional frameworks was obtained using the hydrogen bond capabilities of primary and secondary amides. Furthermore, the cavity of the calix[4]arene was extended by the formation of a multicomponent system. The synthesis of a coordination polymer was characterized in the solid-state. Finally, new complexes of the water soluble p -sulfunatocalix[4]arene with quaternary ammonium cation located inside the cavity of the calix[4]arene were obtained. Characterization of these complexes in the solid-state also revealed that the familiar bilayer arrangement of these water-soluble molecules is maintained.

Theoretical Aspects and Computer Modeling of the Molecular Solid State

Theoretical Aspects and Computer Modeling of the Molecular Solid State PDF Author: Angelo Gavezzotti
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN:
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 256

Book Description
The theoretical aspects of crystal packing, the study of the nature and magnitude of the forces that hold molecules together in organic crystals, and of the most favourable arrangements of molecules in crystals are dealt with in this book. After an introductory chapter on the definition and relevance of symmetry in crystal packing, a chapter deals with the physical foundations of weak intermolecular forces and with their simulation by quantum chemical methods. Subsequently, the relationships between crystal structure and crystal thermodynamics are described using empirical intermolecular potentials to bridge the gap by computer modelling.

Design of Molecular Materials

Design of Molecular Materials PDF Author: Jacques Simon
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN:
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 530

Book Description
This timely and fascinating book is destined to be recognised as THE book on supramolecular engineering protocols. It covers this sometimes difficult subject in an approachable form, gathering together information from many sources. Supramolecular chemistry, which links organic chemistry to materials science, is one of the fastest growth areas of chemistry research. This book creates a correlation between the structure of single molecules and the physical and chemical properties of the resulting materials. By making systematic changes to the component molecules, the resulting solid can be engineered for optimum performance. There is a clearly written development from synthesis of designer molecules to properties of solids and further on to devices and complex materials systems, providing guidelines for mastering the organisation of these systems. Topics covered include: * Systemic chemistry * Molecular assemblies * Notions of symmetry * Supramolecular engineering * Principe de Curie * Organisation in molecular media * Molecular semiconductors * Industrial applications of molecular materials This superb book will be invaluable to researchers in the field of supramolecular materials and also to students and teachers of the subject.
