An Introduction to the Theory of Linear Spaces

An Introduction to the Theory of Linear Spaces PDF Author: Georgi E. Shilov
Publisher: Courier Corporation
ISBN: 0486139433
Category : Mathematics

Mathematical Vector Optimization in Partially Ordered Linear Spaces

Mathematical Vector Optimization in Partially Ordered Linear Spaces PDF Author: Johannes Jahn
Publisher: Peter Lang Gmbh, Internationaler Verlag Der Wissenschaften
ISBN:
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 330

Book Description
In vector optimization one investigates optimal elements such as minimal, strongly minimal, properly minimal or weakly minimal elements of a nonempty subset of a partially ordered linear space. The problem of determining at least one of these optimal elements, if they exist at all, is also called a vector optimization problem. Problems of this type can be found not only in mathematics but also in engineering and economics. Vector optimization problems arise, for example, in functional analysis (the Hahn-Banach theorem, the lemma of Bishop-Phelps, Ekeland's variational principle), multi-objective programming, multi-criteria decision making, statistics (Bayes solutions, theory of tests, minimal covariance matrices), approximation theory (location theory, simultaneous approximation, solution of boundary value problems) and cooperative game theory (cooperative n player differential games and, as a special case, optimal control problems).

Topological Vector Spaces

Topological Vector Spaces PDF Author: H.H. Schaefer
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9780387987262
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 376

Book Description
Intended as a systematic text on topological vector spaces, this text assumes familiarity with the elements of general topology and linear algebra. Similarly, the elementary facts on Hilbert and Banach spaces are not discussed in detail here, since the book is mainly addressed to those readers who wish to go beyond the introductory level. Each of the chapters is preceded by an introduction and followed by exercises, which in turn are devoted to further results and supplements, in particular, to examples and counter-examples, and hints have been given where appropriate. This second edition has been thoroughly revised and includes a new chapter on C^* and W^* algebras.

New Foundations for Physical Geometry

New Foundations for Physical Geometry PDF Author: Tim Maudlin
Publisher:
ISBN: 0198701306
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 374

Book Description
Tim Maudlin sets out a completely new method for describing the geometrical structure of spaces, and thus a better mathematical tool for describing and understanding space-time. He presents a historical review of the development of geometry and topology, and then his original Theory of Linear Structures.
