Le transport électrique à haute tension et très haute tension aura de glus en plus recours aux câbles souterrains. L'insertion d'une liaison souterraine dans le réseau pose des problèmes d'ordre à la fois électrique, thermique et économique. . Une définition de la longueur critique de transport est introduite, intégrant les différentes contraintes en tension et en courant. On présente la compensation par inductance qui permet l'augmentation des longueurs de liaison réalisables et une amélioration de la qualité du transport. * Les méthodes de calcul de la capacité de transport des câbles (l'intensité maximale du courant admissible sans dégradation) sont analysées pour les différents modes de pose. . Une méthode d'optimisation des liaisons mixtes aéro-souterraines est proposée. Elle est basée sur l'analyse de l'adéquation des capacités de transport des lignes aériennes et des câbles souterrains en régime normal et en régime perturbé. * On discute les différents facteurs (investissements, pertes...) entrant en jeu dans le bilan économique. Cette étude est concrétisée par un logiciel qu a pour but de faciliter l'optimisation technico-économique des liaisons souterraines.
