Book Description
Excerpt from Optical Pyrometry In response to numerous inquiries which have been addressed to the Bureau of Standards on the availability and choice of pyrometric methods for particular problems, an experimental investigation of all the leading types of optical pyrometers obtainable has been Carried out. This investigation has also been stimulated by the great advances that have been made recently in the development of optical pyrometry, advances resulting in the production of several simple and trustworthy instruments, called into existence on the one hand by the pressing industrial need of them, and rendered possible on the other hand largely by the great progress made during the past ten years in our knowledge of the laws of radiation from incandescent bodies. These questions will be treated under the following headings. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from Characteristics of Radiation Pyrometers Some 10 years ago the Bureau of Standards published an. Account of an investigation of the subject Optical pyrometry, 1 in which were stated the principles involved in the measurement of high temperatures by Optical methods and descriptions given of the instruments then in use, together with certain applications. In the 'meantime there has been a marked development in the construction of instruments designed for the measurement Of tem perature, based ou the use of the total radiation from hot sub stances. It is the Object of the present paper to give an account Of the principles of radiation pyrometry, considering mainly the various types of radiation instruments, their calibration, sources Of error, including the various factors which may influence their indications, and their adaptability to the measurement of tempera tures. On the Temperature of the Arc (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: C. W. Waidner

Book Description
Excerpt from On the Temperature of the Arc Using the photometric method and a modified form of the Le Chatelier optical pyrometer and assuming that Wien's law continues to hold, Fery finds 41400 abs. With red light and 41700 abs. Using green light. As an explanation of this high value, want of mono chromatism of the glass used at once suggests itself. The explanation certainly applies for the usual red glasses that are sent out by Pellin with the Le Chatelier optical pyrometer. Moreover, the center of light transmission of this glass is nearer to than 0.659y, the value usually assumed from Le Chatelier's early determinations, probably made with a different kind of glass. Outlines of Applied Optics (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: P. G. Nutting
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780265610251
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 250

Book Description
Excerpt from Outlines of Applied Optics Pure and Applied 0ptics. - Optics falls naturally in three divisions; pure optics, applied optics and cosmical optics. Pure optics treats of the laws and phenomena connected with the emission, propagation and absorption of light, from either the physical or mathematical standpoint. Applied optics deals with the applications of optical principles to Optical observations and measurements, hence with the design, use and properties of all kinds of Optical instruments and their accessories. Subdivisions of applied optics deal chiefly with the direction of the light, its intensity, quality and state of polarization. Photometry, spectrophotometry, colorimetry, Optometry, photography, Optical pyrometry, polarimetry, interferometry and many other subjects are included in applied optics. Cosmical optics deals with terrestrial, planetary, solar and stellar optical phenomena. This introduction to applied optics is a summary of those parts of pure optics of most interest to the technologist. Book Description
Pyrometry: A Practical Treatise On The Measurement Of High Temperatures This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards: 1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work. We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. We are grateful to our readers for putting their faith in us and accepting our imperfections with regard to preservation of the historical content. HAPPY READING!

Optical Truths (Classic Reprint)

Optical Truths (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: Charles McCormick

Category : Science

Pages : 176

Book Description
Excerpt from Optical Truths In the practice of ophthalmology one of the essentials is a general knowledge of the nervous system, what it is, whence it cometh, and whither it goeth. It is simply a complete telegraph system, intimately connecting every portion of the anatomy. In structure it is a series of tubular membranes containing in a minute and continuous stream, matter identical with the brain substance, through which electrical energy is transmitted. This energy is of two kinds, galvanic and faradic. The first is generated by the digestive organs, and is constant; the second, is an intermittent current generated by molecular friction throughout the body. The nervous system is divided into two classes, the cerebrospinal or animal, and the sympathetic or organic. There are two currents of nerve force. The afferent, from the peripheral parts to the nerve centers, and the efferent, from the nerve centers to the peripheral parts. The brain is the chief nerve center. All force is sent there, and thence distributed in every direction and in such proportions as conditions require. To do this the brain gives off twelve pairs of cranial nerves and the spinal cord, the latter being the grand trunk line which supplies the minor centers, or plexuses, in the body. Optical Measuring Instruments

Optical Measuring Instruments PDF Author: L. C. Martin
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780365467908
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 304

Book Description
Excerpt from Optical Measuring Instruments: Their Construction, Theory, and Use The present book makes no pretence of instructing the Optical scientific instrument maker in his own work, but since it presents some Of the views of the user of instruments, and since it covers a range of instruments wider than the production of most factories, it may prove of some interest to commercial firms. NO user of a tool can study it too thoroughly, and he will learn a lesson of no little value if he realizes that, in the use of an Optical instrument, the eye and, in fact, the whole mind and body are equally concerned in obtaining the required results. The author will feel amply repaid, however, if it should prove that the book appeals to teachers of science. Are there not many parts of typical physics courses which could with advantage be replaced by more modern material which, while equally educational, is more likely to find direct application in practice? The study of instruments yields such material in abundance. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
