Fiber-Optic Rotation Sensors and Related Technologies
Author: S. Ezekiel
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3540394907
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 447
Book Description
Currently there is considerable interest in the application of optical meth ods for the measurement of absolute rotation. Active approaches, so-called ring laser gyros, have been under serious development for at least 15 years. More recently, passive approaches using ring resonators or multi turn fiber interferometers have also demonstrated much pro~ise. The only previous conference devoted exclusively to optical rotation sensors, held in 1978 in San Diego, California, was organized by the Society of Photo-optical Instru mentation Engineers(S.P.I.E.J. Although the main emphasis at that conference was on ring laser gyros, a number of papers were also included that described the early development of fiber gyroscopes. Since then the field of fiber optic rotation sensors has grown so rapidly that a conference devoted primarily to this subject was needed. The First International Conference on Fiber-Optic Rotation Sensors was held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts, Nove~ ber 9-11, 1981. The purpose of the conference was to bring together the ~any researchers and interested personnel from universities, industry, and govern ment to discuss and exchange ideas on the many recent developments in fiber optic rotation sensors and related technologies. The program consisted of tutorial papers as well as invited and contributed papers.

The Fiber-Optic Gyroscope, Second Edition
Author: Herve C. Lefevre
Publisher: Artech House
ISBN: 1608076962
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 413
Book Description
Written by one of the field’s leading experts, this landmark reference presents a thorough system analysis of the fiber-optic gyroscope (FOG), describing the concepts that have emerged as the preferred solutions for obtaining a practical device. This book’s first edition was published in the early 1990’s. If the basic design rules of the FOG have remained unchanged, the technology has certainly matured, and the expectations presented in the first edition have been largely exceeded. This second edition is updated throughout, featuring new content on Allan variance; testing with optical coherence domain polarimetry; the Shupe effect; and rare-Earth doped fiber ASE sources. In addition, brand new comprehensive appendixes cover the optics, single-mode fiber optics, and integrated optics necessary to understand the fiber gyro and provide an appropriate vocabulary for communicating with electronic component designers.

Pages : 304
Book Description
"Realizing the potential of the fiber optic gyro, like the ring laser gyro, has been a long and expensive process. Many researchers have made important enabling contributions, and many more engineers have worked diligently for many years on solving the problems associated with realizing viable inertial navigation and guidance produce at affordable costs. This book arose from efforts to form a special session to commemorate the fortieth anniversary of the first hardware demonstration of the fiber gyro in 1976 by Vali and Shorthill. The chapters contain contributions from key engineers and scientists who have worked from as early as 1977 to the present on manufacturing high-performance fiber gyros for many applications"--

Fundamentals of Optical Fiber Sensors
Author: Zujie Fang
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1118381734
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 494
Book Description
This book describes the latest development in optical fiber devices, and their applications to sensor technology. Optical fiber sensors, an important application of the optical fiber, have experienced fast development, and attracted wide attentions in basic science as well as in practical applications. Sensing is often likened to human sense organs. Optical fiber can not only transport information acquired by sensors at high speed and large volume, but also can play the roles of sensing element itself. Compared with electric and other types of sensors, fiber sensor technology has unique merits. It has advantages over conventional bulky optic sensors, such as combination of sensing and signal transportation, smaller size, and possibility of building distributed systems. Fiber sensor technology has been used in various areas of industry, transportation, communication, security and defense, as well as daily life. Its importance has been growing with the advancement of the technology and the expansion of the scope of its application, a growth this book fully describes.
