Book Description
One Cosmos under God is an extraordinary book that takes the reader on an intellectual and spiritual journey through the whole of creation. It dares to venture where language cannot go, into the "mind of God" prior to the creation, through to the "mind of the saint" who transcends the culturally conditioned ego, escapes history, and merges with the divine mind. This book is intended to be both serious and entertaining, like an intellectual amusement park ride through the whole of creation. It operates under the premise that if God exists, He has a very sophisticated sense of humor, and the book makes many important points in an ironic or punning way, including in the opening "creation story" and the closing "Cosmobliteration" of language into mystical oneness.

Mind and Cosmos

Mind and Cosmos PDF Author: Thomas Nagel
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 0199919755
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 141

Book Description
The modern materialist approach to life has conspicuously failed to explain such central mind-related features of our world as consciousness, intentionality, meaning, and value. This failure to account for something so integral to nature as mind, argues philosopher Thomas Nagel, is a major problem, threatening to unravel the entire naturalistic world picture, extending to biology, evolutionary theory, and cosmology. Since minds are features of biological systems that have developed through evolution, the standard materialist version of evolutionary biology is fundamentally incomplete. And the cosmological history that led to the origin of life and the coming into existence of the conditions for evolution cannot be a merely materialist history, either. An adequate conception of nature would have to explain the appearance in the universe of materially irreducible conscious minds, as such. Nagel's skepticism is not based on religious belief or on a belief in any definite alternative. In Mind and Cosmos, he does suggest that if the materialist account is wrong, then principles of a different kind may also be at work in the history of nature, principles of the growth of order that are in their logical form teleological rather than mechanistic. In spite of the great achievements of the physical sciences, reductive materialism is a world view ripe for displacement. Nagel shows that to recognize its limits is the first step in looking for alternatives, or at least in being open to their possibility.

God, Cosmos, and Man

God, Cosmos, and Man PDF Author: Wayne Fields
Publisher: Oughten House International
ISBN: 9781880666692
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 210

Book Description
God, Cosmos and Man builds a powerful scientific interpretation of existence centered on the meticulous, integrated development of several main concepts: 1. Matter here and everywhere spontaneously self-organizes; 2. All order we see in the universe has resulted from matter's self-organization; 3. Life is the highest state of spontaneously self-organized matter, and almost certainly exists widely in the cosmos; 4. Mind is the highest state of life, seemingly capable of exerting progressively increasing control over the universe as intelligence further evolves; 5. Science seems to be telling us that god may be different than at least the Western religions would have us believe. Humans basically had a blind-faith, religious view of existence when modern science arose about 400 years ago. But science has progressively superceded religion relative to many critical issues, and remaining topics seem likely to fall to science's relentless onslaught as well. This book carefully crafts a powerful argument based on diverse biological and physical disciplines to show how a remarkably consistent world view emerges from today's science. Such a new perspective carries powerful attributes that may be more satisfying for many, and as any world view should do and agrees with what we actually see. This book provides a fresh, penetrating, scientific analysis of existence, and reveals veiled but powerful interrelations between matter, conscious mind, and cosmic makeup that suggest imaginative new views of god.

The Cosmic Doctrine

The Cosmic Doctrine PDF Author: Dion Fortune
Publisher: Youcanprint
ISBN: 8892648934
Category : Body, Mind & Spirit
Languages : en
Pages : 179

Book Description
The Cosmic Doctrine is a condensed blueprint outline of God's manifestation in this creation. Complex indeed! But what has tended to bother some about the Cosmic Doctrine teaching has been the almost total emphasis in explaining evolution simply as being the psychic nuts and bolts of God. Leaving one with the impression that God may be reduced from a Great and Infinite Being to a kind of mechanical Newtonian clockwork. However there is much more to it than that. The higher up the planes you go, although esoteric theory tends to describe it as all more abstract, in actual fact things become so much more complex, vibrant, vivid, bursting, and brimming with life in incredible profusion. It is another form of experience however. The broadest, though simple, analogy would be to liken the existence on the higher levels as something after the order of a Bach fugue - which could indeed seem to some a rather dry abstraction, but which to the attuned and educated ear is a revelation of divinity, harmony and celestial order. The reality is not easy to describe in concepts, let alone in words. How best to describe a rainbow to a blind man? Contens Introduction Section I. THE EVOLUTION OF THE COSMOS. - 1. 11 Days at the Edge

11 Days at the Edge PDF Author: Michael Wombacher
Publisher: Findhorn Press
ISBN: 1844093085
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 740

Book Description
Revolutionary idealist and vocal cultural critic Andrew Cohen promotes a new spiritual paradigm in this exploration of a true visionary’s controversial school of thought. Though Cohen was once a teacher of personal enlightenment, he now quests for a joint spiritual longing and humanitarian love-two forces that enable and empower each other to the point where enlightenment becomes evolution. Uncompromising in his call for human transformation, Cohen is presented as an illustrious spiritual figure whose liberated consciousness and ruthless deconstruction of the culture around him have kept everyone talking; in 2004, he was invited to address the Parliament of World Religions, an unusual honor for a man buoyed by no established spiritual tradition and unyielding in his demand for integrity.
