Plasma Scattering of Electromagnetic Radiation

Plasma Scattering of Electromagnetic Radiation PDF Author: John Sheffield
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 0080952038
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 512

Book Description
This work presents one of the most powerful methods of plasma diagnosis in exquisite detail, to guide researchers in the theory and measurement techniques of light scattering in plasmas. Light scattering in plasmas is essential in the research and development of fusion energy, environmental solutions, and electronics. Referred to as the "Bible" by researchers, the work encompasses fusion and industrial applications essential in plasma research. It is the only comprehensive resource specific to the plasma scattering technique. It provides a wide-range of experimental examples and discussion of their principles with worked examples to assist researchers in applying the theory. Computing techniques for solving basic equations helps researchers compare data to the actual experiment New material on advances on the experimental side, such as the application of high density plasmas of inertial fusion Worked out examples of the scattering technique for easier comprehension of theory

Fusion Plasma Diagnostics with mm-Waves

Fusion Plasma Diagnostics with mm-Waves PDF Author: Hans-Jürgen Hartfuß
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 3527676244
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 429

Book Description
Filling a gap in the literature, this introduction to the topic covers the physics of the standard microwave diagnostics established on modern fusion experiments, and the necessary technological background from the field of microwave engineering. Written by well-known mm-wave diagnosticians in the field of fusion physics, the textbook includes such major diagnostic techniques as electron cyclotron emission, interferometry, reflectometry, polarimetry, and scattering.

Theory of Thomson Scattering from a Weakly Ionized Plasma

Theory of Thomson Scattering from a Weakly Ionized Plasma PDF Author: Richard G. Seasholtz
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Magnetic fields
Languages : en
Pages : 45

Book Description
The theory of Thomson scattering from a weakly ionized plasma is extended to include the effects of unequal electron and ion temperatures, a constant magnetic field, and electron drift. The plasma is described by the two fluid continuum equations that are valid if the wavelength of the probing wave is longer than the ion-neutral mean free path. The spectrum and total scattered power are calculated. Collisions and a magnetic field are both shown to influence the scattered power for unequal electron and ion temperatures.

Ec-9: Proceedings Of The Ninth Joint Workshop On Electron Cyclotron Emission And Electron Cyclotron Heating

Ec-9: Proceedings Of The Ninth Joint Workshop On Electron Cyclotron Emission And Electron Cyclotron Heating PDF Author: John Lohr
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9814548979
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 678

Book Description
The conference proceedings will include the papers of approximately 50 key specialists from most of the world's major fusion laboratories, including the European Community, the U.S., Russia and the PRC. The unifying themes are the emission of electron cyclotron waves by high temperature plasmas and the reciprocal process, absorption, which can be used for heating, non inductive current drive and diagnostic purposes.

Thomson Scattering from Near-solid Density Plasmas Using Soft X-ray Free Electron Lasers

Thomson Scattering from Near-solid Density Plasmas Using Soft X-ray Free Electron Lasers PDF Author:
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 27

Book Description
We propose a collective Thomson scattering experiment at the VUV free electron laser facility at DESY (FLASH) which aims to diagnose warm dense matter at near-solid density. The plasma region of interest marks the transition from an ideal plasma to a correlated and degenerate many-particle system and is of current interest, e.g. in ICF experiments or laboratory astrophysics. Plasma diagnostic of such plasmas is a longstanding issue. The collective electron plasma mode (plasmon) is revealed in a pump-probe scattering experiment using the high-brilliant radiation to probe the plasma. The distinctive scattering features allow to infer basic plasma properties. For plasmas in thermal equilibrium the electron density and temperature is determined from scattering off the plasmon mode.
