Higher Order Boundary Value Problems On Unbounded Domains: Types Of Solutions, Functional Problems And Applications

Higher Order Boundary Value Problems On Unbounded Domains: Types Of Solutions, Functional Problems And Applications PDF Author: Feliz Manuel Minhos
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9813220074
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 217

Book Description
This volume provides a comprehensive overview on different types of higher order boundary value problems defined on the half-line or on the real line (Sturm-Liouville and Lidstone types, impulsive, functional and problems defined by Hammerstein integral equations). It also includes classical and new methods and techniques to deal with the lack of compactness of the related operators. The reader will find a selection of original and recent results in this field, conditions to obtain solutions with particular qualitative properties, such as homoclinic and heteroclinic solutions and its relation with the solutions of Lidstone problems on all the real line. Each chapter contains applications to real phenomena, to classical equations or problems, with a common denominator: they are defined on unbounded intervals and the existing results in the literature are scarce or proven only numerically in discrete cases. The last part features some higher order functional problems, which generalize the classical two-point or multi-point boundary conditions, to more comprehensive data where an overall behavior of the unknown functions and their derivatives is involved.

Variational and Free Boundary Problems

Variational and Free Boundary Problems PDF Author: Avner Friedman
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461383579
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 210

Book Description
This IMA Volume in Mathematics and its Applications VARIATIONAL AND FREE BOUNDARY PROBLEMS is based on the proceedings of a workshop which was an integral part of the 1990- 91 IMA program on "Phase Transitions and Free Boundaries. " The aim of the workshop was to highlight new methods, directions and problems in variational and free boundary theory, with a concentration on novel applications of variational methods to applied problems. We thank R. Fosdick, M. E. Gurtin, W. -M. Ni and L. A. Peletier for organizing the year-long program and, especially, J. Sprock for co-organizing the meeting and co-editing these proceedings. We also take this opportunity to thank the National Science Foundation whose financial support made the workshop possible. Avner Friedman Willard Miller, Jr. PREFACE In a free boundary one seeks to find a solution u to a partial differential equation in a domain, a part r of its boundary of which is unknown. Thus both u and r must be determined. In addition to the standard boundary conditions on the un known domain, an additional condition must be prescribed on the free boundary. A classical example is the Stefan problem of melting of ice; here the temperature sat isfies the heat equation in the water region, and yet this region itself (or rather the ice-water interface) is unknown and must be determined together with the tempera ture within the water. Some free boundary problems lend themselves to variational formulation.

Symmetries of Integro-Differential Equations

Symmetries of Integro-Differential Equations PDF Author: Sergey V. Meleshko

Book Description
This book provides an accessible yet comprehensive description of the application methods of group analysis to integro-differential equations. It offers both fundamental theoretical and algorithmic aspects of these methods and includes instructive examples.

Introduction to Fractional and Pseudo-Differential Equations with Singular Symbols

Introduction to Fractional and Pseudo-Differential Equations with Singular Symbols PDF Author: Sabir Umarov
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319207717
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 446

Book Description
The book systematically presents the theories of pseudo-differential operators with symbols singular in dual variables, fractional order derivatives, distributed and variable order fractional derivatives, random walk approximants, and applications of these theories to various initial and multi-point boundary value problems for pseudo-differential equations. Fractional Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov equations associated with a large class of stochastic processes are presented. A complex version of the theory of pseudo-differential operators with meromorphic symbols based on the recently introduced complex Fourier transform is developed and applied for initial and boundary value problems for systems of complex differential and pseudo-differential equations.

Differential and Difference Equations with Applications

Differential and Difference Equations with Applications PDF Author: Sandra Pinelas
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319756478
Category : Mathematics

Introduction to Plasma Physics

Introduction to Plasma Physics PDF Author: R.J Goldston
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9781439822074
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 514

Book Description
Introduction to Plasma Physics is the standard text for an introductory lecture course on plasma physics. The text's six sections lead readers systematically and comprehensively through the fundamentals of modern plasma physics. Sections on single-particle motion, plasmas as fluids, and collisional processes in plasmas lay the groundwork for a thorough understanding of the subject. The authors take care to place the material in its historical context for a rich understanding of the ideas presented. They also emphasize the importance of medical imaging in radiotherapy, providing a logical link to more advanced works in the area. The text includes problems, tables, and illustrations as well as a thorough index and a complete list of references.
