Beginning in Venice

Beginning in Venice PDF Author: Robin Yong
Publisher: Partridge Publishing Singapore
ISBN: 148282776X
Category : Travel
Languages : en
Pages : 254

Book Description
For photographer Robin Yong, the Venetian Carnival had always been a faraway dream. He often wondered about the costumed people and who they really were. And then, he jumped on the opportunity to travel to Venice, Italy, to photograph the Venetian Carnival, one of the most beautiful festivals in one of the most enchanting cities in the world. In Beginning in Venice, he shares a collection of photographs from that trip and narrates the stories behind the photographs. With an eye for composition and color and for capturing remarkable moments, these pictures document the wonderful events of outrageous costumes set in a medieval environment. It tells a story of history, culture, art, and sensuality. Each image is imbued with Robin Yongs love for the masquerade and its actors: smiles or frowns on the masks, sparks in the eyes of his models, textures, colors, and minute details in a costume. Through the photographs presented in Beginning in Venice, the beauty and romance of Venice comes alive.

This Wide Terraqueous World

This Wide Terraqueous World PDF Author: Laird Hunt
Publisher: Coffee House Press
ISBN: 1566896681
Category : Literary Collections
Languages : en
Pages : 105

Book Description
Haunting essays from acclaimed author Laird Hunt balance intimate remembrance with an examination of the writing life. In this new collection of nonfiction from the celebrated author of Zorrie, Laird Hunt uses fiction as an inspiration, a tool, even an obsession, employing its methods to get to the heart of experience. The “sizzling” work of Jane Bowles colors his wanderings through Palermo, while a London museum trip provokes a consideration of taxidermy’s storytelling potential and fairytales blend with echoes of W. G. Sebald, Willa Cather, and László Krasznahorkai. From intrigue at the United Nations to a broken-down car in Kansas, from the history of denim to the dangerous games of childhood, This Wide Terraqueous World leads readers down the winding paths of memory as Hunt examines his subjects in razor-sharp prose both eerily spare and richly evocative.

Excerpt: The Micro Four Thirds system (MFT) is a standard created by Olympus and Panasonic, and announced on August 5, 2008, for mirrorless interchangeable lens digital cameras and camcorders design and development. However, unlike the preceding Four Thirds System, it is not an open standard. MFT shares the original image sensor size and specification with the Four Thirds system, designed for DSLRs. Unlike Four Thirds, the MFT system design specification does not provide space for a mirror box and a pentaprism, allowing smaller bodies to be designed, and a shorter flange focal distance and hence smaller lenses to be designed. Virtually any lens can be used on MFT camera bodies, as long as an adapter exists. For instance, Four Third lenses can be used with auto focus using the adapters designed by Olympus and Panasonic. Drawing showing the relative sizes of sensors used in most current digital cameras, relative to a 35mm film frame. The image sensor of Four Thirds and MFT is commonly referred to as a 4/3" type or 4/3 type sensor (inch-based sizing system is derived from now obsolete video camera tubes). The sensor measures 18 mm x 13.5 mm (22.5 mm diagonal), with an imaging area of 17.3 mm x 13.0 mm (21.6 mm diagonal), comparable to the frame size of 110 film. Its area, ca. 220 mm, is approximately 40% less than the APS-C sensors used in other manufacturers' DSLRs, yet is around 9 times larger than the 1/2.5" sensors...
