History of Nordic Computing

History of Nordic Computing PDF Author: Janis Bubenko
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 038724168X
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 484

Book Description
Computing in the Nordic countries started in late 1940s mainly as an engineering activity to build computing devices to perform mathematical calculations and assist mathematicians and engineers in scientific problem solving. The early computers of the Nordic countries emerged during the 1950s and had names like BARK, BESK, DASK, SMIL, SARA, ESKO, and NUSSE. Each of them became a nucleus in institutes and centres for mathematical computations programmed and used by highly qualified professionals. However, one should not forget the punched-card machine technology at this time that had existed for several decades. In addition, we have a Nordic name, namely Frederik Rosing Bull, contributing to the fundaments of punched card technology and forming the French company Bull. Commercial products such as FACIT EDB and SAAB D20-series computers in Sweden, the Danish GIER computer, the Nokia MIKKO computer in Finland, as well as the computers of Norsk Data in Norway followed the early computers. In many cases, however, companies and institutions did not further develop or exploit Nordic computing hardware, even though it exhibited technical advantages. Consequently, in the 1970s, US computers, primarily from IBM, flooded the Nordic market.

Tales of advertising told by advertisers

Tales of advertising told by advertisers PDF Author: Fidel del Castillo Díaz
Publisher: ESIC Editorial
ISBN: 8417914056
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 162

Book Description
-Uf! another advertising manual... -Yes, another manual. But this one is different. To with, with Plato's permission, it is a book written in the form of a question/answer, almost a conversation. With this we are going to try to make it a little more enjoyable and even put a spark of humor in it. But beyond the form, is a manual written by eight advertising professionals, professionals who have been working for years in their respective positions ... An advertiser's communications director, an advertising agency director, a creative director, a media director, an account director, a strategic planning director, an expert in advertising law and a creative innovation director tell us what their vision is of the work they do, the functioning of the agency and advertising in general. The advertising told by advertisers is, in addition to a tautology, an unorthodox manual academically speaking but very instructive of how they think, how they work and how they live advertising professionals.

Changes in the Sheep Industry in the United States

Changes in the Sheep Industry in the United States PDF Author: National Research Council
Publisher: National Academies Press
ISBN: 0309134390
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 366

Book Description
The U.S. sheep industry is complex, multifaceted, and rooted in history and tradition. The dominant feature of sheep production in the United States, and, thus, the focus of much producer and policy concern, has been the steady decline in sheep and lamb inventories since the mid-1940s. Although often described as "an industry in decline," this report concludes that a better description of the current U.S. sheep industry is "an industry in transition."
