Book Description
The Bible is the best-selling, most widely read, and most quoted book in history. It is also misunderstood, misquoted, and fiercely debated. If, as Christians believe, the Bible is the Word of God, why is it so complex and difficult to interpret in parts, yet simple enough for even children to understand in others? In Scripture and the Skeptic Eric Huffman, author of 40 Days of Doubt, helps readers understand and cope with confusion about the Bible and provides answers to questions by reframing it as a perfect and seamless story. Huffman illustrates how the Bible, even the parts some consider ungodly, presents the beautiful story that God intended to tell. Through storytelling from his own experiences and his take on Bible stories, Huffman helps readers understand the Bible by interpreting the entire book through the lens of Jesus’s life, death, and resurrection. He shows how every part of the Bible is either crying out for Jesus, witnessing his incarnation, or responding in the aftermath of his resurrection. Readers discover how to trust the Bible as God’s beautiful and perfect salvation story. Includes questions with each chapter for personal reflection or group study. From the author of 40 Days of Doubt: Devotions for the Skeptic.

Book Description
One man's quest to rectify the mistakes he is convinced were made by histories most famous prophet, Jesus. "Are you secure in your beliefs? Whatever your answer might be, you should read this book… This book qualifies as an excellent début novel on so many levels. Firstly, it tells a cracking story of one confused and increasingly delusional man’s journey through life, land and time. It depicts, in a highly fictional yet worryingly prophetic way, how destructively the influence of religion can effect not just the perspective of a single individual, but the development of an entire belief system. Secondly it questions the origins, validity, theory, authenticity, and general principles of modern belief systems, in an often scathing but always genuinely inquisitive way. A way, nevertheless, that some will find fascinating, while other, more orthodox religious practitioners, might find unacceptable. But keep reading, there are many twists and turns in the story. I have been lucky enough to read the second instalment of the story, which is not yet available to the public, but I can assure you takes the story to a conclusion that’s worth the wait. (I must add that this first book is a complete story in itself.) Thirdly, the story leads the main character to develop a theory which daringly suggests a complete alternative to the religiously accepted concept of ‘God’, or divine being. One that will ruffle the feathers of believers and non-believers alike. Ultimately, the book is just a novel and I enjoyed it as a story. But as a committed atheist, I found myself doing the one thing I never thought I would… considering the possible existence of divine spirituality. Many will scoff, many will take umbrage, many will have their religious commitment undermined, others will be thrown into confusion, but no one will read this book without re-examining their attitude towards modern religion, God, and spirituality. The question that matters is - No matter what your religious convictions are, are they strong enough to read this book?"

Book Description
Why would our loving God choose to forever record the stories of men and women whose lives collapsed in sin and shame? Why share biographies of people like Jezebel and Judas, whose lives didn't have happy endings? Perhaps the Lord recognized that their stories could powerfully inform and shape us. Their loss can become our gain. EPIC FAIL: GAINING WISDOM FROM FAILURES OF BIBLICAL PROPORTION is God's invitation to learn and grow from the great collapses of the Bible. While all of us will experience the pain and shame of failure, sometimes we have to fail in order to succeed. As any successful scientist, entrepreneur, parent, or coach can attest, the road to success is paved with setbacks. Every stumble is a chance to reevaluate, learn, reinvent, adapt, and mature. Each setback is an opportunity to make course corrections. This book shows that though we are human and we are destined to fail, with God's help and an openness to learn we can resolve to fail forward.

The Lost Book of Moses
Author: Chanan Tigay
Publisher: HarperCollins
ISBN: 0062206435
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 253
Book Description
One man’s quest to find the oldest Bible scrolls in the world and uncover the story of the brilliant, doomed antiquarian accused of forging them. In the summer of 1883, Moses Wilhelm Shapira—archaeological treasure hunter and inveterate social climber—showed up unannounced in London claiming to have discovered the oldest copy of the Bible in the world. But before the museum could pony up his £1 million asking price for the scrolls—which discovery called into question the divine authorship of the scriptures—Shapira’s nemesis, the French archaeologist Charles Clermont-Ganneau, denounced the manuscripts, turning the public against him. Distraught over this humiliating public rebuke, Shapira fled to the Netherlands and committed suicide. Then, in 1947 the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. Noting the similarities between these and Shapira’s scrolls, scholars made efforts to re-examine Shapira’s case, but it was too late: the primary piece of evidence, the parchment scrolls themselves had mysteriously vanished. Tigay, journalist and son of a renowned Biblical scholar, was galvanized by this peculiar story and this indecipherable man, and became determined to find the scrolls. He sets out on a quest that takes him to Australia, England, Holland, Germany where he meets Shapira’s still aggrieved descendants and Jerusalem where Shapira is still referred to in the present tense as a “Naughty boy”. He wades into museum storerooms, musty English attics, and even the Jordanian gorge where the scrolls were said to have been found all in a tireless effort to uncover the truth about the scrolls and about Shapira, himself. At once historical drama and modern-day mystery, The Lost Book of Moses explores the nineteenth-century disappearance of Shapira’s scrolls and Tigay's globetrotting hunt for the ancient manuscript. As it follows Tigay’s trail to the truth, the book brings to light a flamboyant, romantic, devious, and ultimately tragic personality in a story that vibrates with the suspense of a classic detective tale.

The Wisdom Pyramid
Author: Brett McCracken
Publisher: Crossway
ISBN: 1433569620
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 185
Book Description
We're facing an information overload. With the quick tap of a finger we can access an endless stream of addictive information—sports scores, breaking news, political opinions, streaming TV, the latest Instagram posts, and much more. Accessing information has never been easier—but acquiring wisdom is increasingly difficult. In an effort to help us consume a more balanced, healthy diet of information, Brett McCracken has created the "Wisdom Pyramid." Inspired by the food pyramid model, the Wisdom Pyramid challenges us to increase our intake of enduring, trustworthy sources (like the Bible) while moderating our consumption of less reliable sources (like the Internet and social media). At a time when so much of our daily media diet is toxic and making us spiritually sick, The Wisdom Pyramid suggests that we become healthy and wise when we reorient our lives around God—the foundation of truth and the eternal source of wisdom.
