Authority for conducting occupational surveys is contained in AFI 36-2623. Computer products used in this report are available for use by operations and training officials. 1. Survey Coverage: AFSCs 2A1X2 and 2A4Xl were surveyed to provide current job and task data for use in updating career ladder documents and training programs. Survey results are based on responses from 2,131 Active Duty (AD), Air National Guard (ANG), and Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) respondents across both career ladders, accounting for 60 percent of the total population surveyed. The majority of this specific report however will primarily focus on members in AFSC 2AlX2 Avionics Guidance and Control Systems.

As described in the AFMAN 36-2108 Specialty Description, dated 30 April 1994, members of the Aircraft Electrical and Environmental Systems career ladder inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain aircraft electrical and environmental systems, subsystems, components, and test equipment. In addition, members also install, test, modify, repair and overhaul aircraft electrical and environmental systems, components and test equipment. All members are required to attend the J3ABR2A636-OOl Aircraft Electrical and Environmental Systems apprentice course. The course, offered at Sheppard AFB, is 87 days long. The Aircraft Electrical and Environmental Systems Craftsman course, J3AAR2A676-OOO, is 10 days long. Entry into the career ladder currently requires Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery minimum scores of 45 Mechanical and 60 Electronic, and the strength factor of "K" (weight lift of 70 lbs) must be met or exceeded.

This report presents the results of an occupational survey of the B- 1B Avionics Test Station and Components specialty completed by the Occupational Analysis Division, USAF Occupational Measurement Center, in September 1990. This survey was requested by H1 ATC/TTOA, Randolph AFB TX, in August 1988. The purpose of this survey is to evaluate the AFSC 451X7 career ladder since its creation under a Rivet Workforce initiative, effective 31 October 1987. Career ladder documents, including the Specialty Training Standard (STS) and AFR 39-1 Specialty Descriptions, have not been validated before with occupational survey data. Theses documents, along with the Plan of Instruction (POI) used by technical training personnel at Lowry AFB CO, will be examined in this report.
