Excerpt: ...or waggons, some of which will convey the stores, baggage, and provisions, while-others may be reserved for the passengers, for whom they will, at all events, be a comfortable retreat at night, to sleep in. These waggons and carts proceeding at a slow slow rate, the men may generally be mounted on horseback, for which purpose the saddles and bridles, according to the fashion of the country, must be purchased at Buenos Aires, as also biscuit, and all other necessaries. The French brandy, of which there is a suflicient supply for the English parties, must be husbanded, and a small stock of other spirits must be laid in at Buenos Aires for the drivers and peons. The details of every thing which can and ought to be supplied to the travellers will be furnished by Messrs., with-the assistance of people accustomed to the fitting out of the caravans, as also trustworthy guides. The other body, destined for Famatina, will proceed in the same manner as far as Cordova; but from thence they will be mounted on mules; and as they will no longer have the benefit of covered carts and waggons, they ought to take some of the tents with them, but no more than what may be absolutely necessary for sheltering the European travellers. Their luggage, stores, and apparatus, must be packed in convenient packages for loading on mules, no package exceeding a hundred and a half weight; and every unnecessary incumbrance must be left at Buenos Aires, to be forwarded 'afterwards when demanded.
