Book Description
A new method of numerical solution of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations is applied to time-dependent flow about a rectangular slab at an angle of attack. With this formulation the solition is obtained in the entire unbounded flow field, but with actual computation required only in regions of significant vorticity. This allows considerable reduction in computer storage, since only points in regions of signficant vorticity need be stored at any particular time. The computational field thus expands in time. (Modified author abstract).

Finite Elements in Water Resources

Finite Elements in Water Resources PDF Author: K.-P. Holz
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3662023482
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 1095

Book Description
These proceedings contain the papers presented at the Fourth International Conference on Finite Elements in Water Resources, held in June, 1982, at the University of Hannover, Federal Re public of Germany. This Conference continued the successful series of previous conferences held at Princeton University in 1976, at Imperial College in 1978, and at the University of Mississippi in 1980. Since Finite Elements have proved to be a powerful means for analysing water resource problems, the principal objective of the Conference was to provide an exchange of experiences in practical applications of the finite element method and to establish a forum for discussion regarding accuracy, economy, limitations and improvements. Related discretization methods were included within the scope of the Conference. New develop ments in numerical and computational techniques, basic mathe matical formulations, and soft- and hardware aspects were considered to be equally important topics for an exchange of ideas between both theoretically and practically oriented re searchers. The Conference Organizing Committee is very grateful to the many distinguished scientists who attended the Conference, and for their contributions towards the proceedings. This collection of papers in being made available to a wider audience of en gineers and scientists by CML Publications in Southampton, U.K.

Numerical Solution of the Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations

Numerical Solution of the Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations PDF Author: L. Quartapelle
Publisher: Birkhäuser
ISBN: 3034885792
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 296

Book Description
This book presents different formulations of the equations governing incompressible viscous flows, in the form needed for developing numerical solution procedures. The conditions required to satisfy the no-slip boundary conditions in the various formulations are discussed in detail. Rather than focussing on a particular spatial discretization method, the text provides a unitary view of several methods currently in use for the numerical solution of incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, using either finite differences, finite elements or spectral approximations. For each formulation, a complete statement of the mathematical problem is provided, comprising the various boundary, possibly integral, and initial conditions, suitable for any theoretical and/or computational development of the governing equations. The text is suitable for courses in fluid mechanics and computational fluid dynamics. It covers that part of the subject matter dealing with the equations for incompressible viscous flows and their determination by means of numerical methods. A substantial portion of the book contains new results and unpublished material.

Numerical Methods for Predicting Subsonic, Transonic and Supersonic Flow

Numerical Methods for Predicting Subsonic, Transonic and Supersonic Flow PDF Author: Thomas Darwin Taylor
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Aerodynamics
Languages : en
Pages : 56

Book Description
The methods available for numerical computation of subsonic, transonic and supersonic flows are discussed and comments are included on the characteristics of the popular methods. Both inviscid and viscous computation methods are addressed. A brief account of the basic approaches for developing methods initiates the discussion. Also included is a general summary of the state of the art of computational methods along with suggested approaches for solving problems in each area. The report is included with recommendations for future study and development. (Author).
