Numerical Calculations for Reflection of Electromagnetic Waves from a Lossy Magnetoplasma

Numerical Calculations for Reflection of Electromagnetic Waves from a Lossy Magnetoplasma PDF Author: Lillie C. Walters
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Electromagnetic waves
Languages : en
Pages : 28

Book Description
Extensive numerical results are presented for the reflection coefficient of a horizontally stratified ionized medium. The profiles of electron density and the collision frequencies are both taken to be exponential functions. The d-c magnetic field is taken to be horizontal and transverse to the direction of propagation. The specific results described are applicable to the oblique reflection of VLF radio waves in the D layer of the ionosphere for propagation along the magnetic equator. It is confirmed that the reflection coefficient is non-reciprocal in both amplitude and phase. For a wide range of the parameters, the magnitude of the reflection coefficient is greater for west-to-east propagation than for east-to-west propagation. The extensive graphical data in the present paper are to be regarded as supplementary to the paper 'Reflection of Electromagnetic Waves from a Lossy Magetoplasma' which contained only a small sample of such calculations. Book Description
Excerpt from Numerical Calculations for Reflection of Electromagnetic Waves From a Lossy Magnetoplasma As mentioned above, these are typical of the daytime D layer for both the N and v profiles. For this model, the reflected wave is also vertically polarized and thus the reflection coefficient is. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. VLF Radio Engineering

VLF Radio Engineering PDF Author: Arthur D. Watt
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483152308
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 724

Book Description
Electromagnetic Waves, Volume 14: VLF Radio Engineering provides a detailed coverage of the fields involved in very low frequency (VLF) radio engineering. This book serves as a guide for applying the information in the solution of practical problems. Comprised of seven chapters, this volume starts with an overview of the communications aspect following the flow of information carrying energy from the transmitting to receiving locations. This text then presents the complete systems that consider the interrelationship of the various factors. Other chapters explain the basic concept of a VLF antenna, which is a vertical electric monopole over a perfectly conducting flat plane. This book discusses as well the radio wave propagation at VLF, which has been studied theoretically and experimentally for many years. The final chapter deals with the primary components of a complete VLF radio system. This book is a valuable resource for radio engineers, scientists, and researchers.

Numerical Values of the Path Integrals for Low and Very Low Frequencies

Numerical Values of the Path Integrals for Low and Very Low Frequencies PDF Author: Leslie A. Berry
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Geometrical optics
Languages : en
Pages : 114

Book Description
Numerical values of the path integrals for the first five hops are given as a function of distance from 1000 km to 8000 km, for frequencies of 10, 20, 30, 60, 100, 150, and 200 kHz., for sea paths, and for land paths with conductivities of 0 * .01 and 0.001 mhos/m, assuming reflection heights of 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100 km.For convenience, ground wave curves for the same parameters are given.Using these values, and any ionospheric reflection coefficients, the individual time modes, and the total field can be calculated simply. The calculation is valid near the caustic and in the shadow region. The path integrals can also be used to extract ionospheric reflection coefficients from experimental data. Characteristics of the Earth-ionosphere Waveguide for VLF Radio Waves

Characteristics of the Earth-ionosphere Waveguide for VLF Radio Waves PDF Author: James R. Wait
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Ionospheric radio wave propagation
Languages : en
Pages : 104

Book Description
The principal results of this technical note are graphical presentations of the attenuation rates, phase velocities, and excitation factors for the dominant modes in the earth-ionosphere waveguide. The frequency range considered is 8 kc/s to 30 kc/s. *The model adopted for the ionosphere has an exponential variation for both the electron density and the collision frequency, and the effect of the earth's magnetic field is considered.Comparison with published experimental data confirms that the minimum attenuation of VLF radio waves in daytime is approximtely at 18 kc/s, while at night it is somewhat lower. The directional dependences of propagation predicted by the theory are also confirmed by experimental data.(Author).
