Artificial Intelligence and Other Innovative Computer Applications in the Nuclear Industry

Artificial Intelligence and Other Innovative Computer Applications in the Nuclear Industry PDF Author: M. Catherine Majumdar
Publisher: Springer
ISBN:
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 936

Book Description
This conference brought together experts from 15 countries to discuss application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques to the nuclear industry. It was apparent from the meeting that even those active in the field were surprised at the extent of work and the progress made. There was a strong impression that application of this technology to nuclear power plants is inevitable. The benefits to improved operation, design, and safety are simply too significant to be ignored. This is a much different conclusion than might have been reached a few years ago when the technology was new and people were struggling to understand its significance. We believe that this meeting reflects a major turning point for the technology. It has moved from being a topic understood only by specialists to a situation where users are the most active people in the field. A broad array of innovative work is described from all of the participating countries. The activity in the u.s. is large and diverse. Although there is no nationally focussed policy for AI research in the U.S., many of these activities are reported here. Japan and France have a strong drive to integrate AI technology into their nuclear plants, and this is reflecteq in these proceedings.

Artificial Intelligence for Accelerating Nuclear Applications, Science and Technology

Artificial Intelligence for Accelerating Nuclear Applications, Science and Technology PDF Author: International Atomic Energy Agency
Publisher:
ISBN: 9789201315229
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
Artificial intelligence (AI) methods have had significant impacts in science and technology in recent years. These methods for generating models from datasets or logic-based algorithms that emulate aspects of human performance can similarly accelerate the fields of nuclear applications, science, and technology toward the IAEA goals of contributing to peace, health, and prosperity. This publication provides a review of the current state of the art, outlines challenges and identifies priorities for future AI activities in the nuclear field and the IAEA's role to support their accomplishment. The uses of AI in the fields of nuclear sciences and applications, nuclear power, nuclear safety and security and safeguards verification, are considered. There is also a dedicated chapter on ethics pertinent to AI in the nuclear field.

Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning in Nuclear Medicine and Hybrid Imaging

Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning in Nuclear Medicine and Hybrid Imaging PDF Author: Patrick Veit-Haibach
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3031001192
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 217

Book Description
This book includes detailed explanations of the underlying technologies and concepts used in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in the context of nuclear medicine and hybrid imaging. A diverse team of authors, including pioneers in the field and respected experts from leading international institutions, share their insights, opinions and outlooks on this exciting topic. A wide range of clinical applications are discussed, from brain applications to body indications, as well as the applicability of AI and ML for cardio-vascular conditions. The book also considers the potential impact of theranostics. To balance the technology-heavy and disease-specific applications, it also discusses ethical / legal issues, economic realities and the human factor, the physician. Though this discussion is not based on research and outcomes, it provides important insights into the ramifications of how AI and ML could transform Nuclear Medicine and Hybrid Imaging practice. As the first work highlighting the role of these concepts specifically in this field, rather than for medical imaging in general, this book offers a valuable resource for Nuclear Medicine Physicians, Radiologists, Physicists, Medical Imaging Administrators and Nuclear Medicine Technologists alike.

Book Description
Improving nuclear reactor power plant operability is an ever-present concern for the nuclear industry. The definition of plant operability involves a complex interaction of the ideas of reliability, safety, and efficiency. This paper presents observations concerning the issues involved and the benefits derived from the implementation of a computer application which combines traditional computer applications with artificial intelligence (AI) methodologies. A system, the Component Configuration Control System (CCCS), is being installed to support nuclear reactor operations at the Experimental Breeder Reactor II.
