Excerpt from Geography and Geology of the "Big Bend" Of the Columbia Mountains to the south-west. - The nearest summit of the Selkirks, three or four miles from the rapids, was also ascended, and its height found, by comparison of barometer readings with those at Donald, to be feet. From this point, precipices, snowy mountain tops and glaciers can be seen in all directions. Several peaks Ofthe Selkirks are much higher than the one ascended, at least or feet. A large glacier in the valley west of the mountain climbed, reached about feet lower than the point on which we stood.
