El burnout es un tema de mucha relevancia para la Psicología Industrial Organizacional, siendo uno de los daños laborales más importantes de la actualidad. En este escrito se presenta una revisión de literatura extensa para definir el término de burnout y sus dimensiones. Utilicé como referencia teórica el modelo de demandas y recursos laborales de Bakker y Demeroutis, y el Modelo demandas-control-apoyo (IMDCA) de Karasek. Como instrumento de medición utilicé el IMDCA inventario adaptado en Puerto Rico por Rosario-Hernández y Rovira-Millán (2016), y el CESQT de Gil-Monte (2009). Los participantes de este estudio fueron 60 maestros de educación especial de la región educativa de Caguas. Como resultado se encontró una correlación de .524 en el nivel de significancia de 0.01 entre las demandas laborales (demandas psicológicas, emocionales y físicas) y el síndrome de burnout. También se encontraron puntuaciones altas en la dimensión de desgaste psíquico.
