Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 104

Book Description
This book includes approximately 2000 marriage records using the marriage register, marriage license and the Norfolk Virginian Newspaper. This book includes a sample of what the marriage license looked like in the 1870's. It was also in the 1870's that the marriage license was expanded to included color. Included is name of Groom and Bride and ages and marital status along with place of birth and parents names if known. Also if your ancestor's marriage notice appeared in the Norfolk Virginian Newspaper, it is also noted. Again, I use a lot of made up abbreviations, and an at glance key is provided to help you. This register is in alphabetical order by the grooms surname.

Book Description
I started this book where George Tucker's 1797-1850 book left off and actually there is a small amount of overlapping with the two books. There are approximate 1200 marriage records in this book. I used marriage bonds, minister's returns, and the marriage register along with the first form marriage licenses to complete this book. This book is different from all the rest because in this book I show the evolution of the marriage record. I show you what a marriage bond looked like, what a minister's return looked like and the first two form marriage licenses that came into being in the City of Norfolk. This book is the only book of the 5 that is in date order and includes an ABC index, where you find your ancestors name and then look him or her up by the date.

Tierck Clafsen DeWitt and Descendants of His Son Luycas DeWitt

Publisher: Trafford Publishing
ISBN: 1412019567
Category : Family & Relationships

Book Description
The DeWitt genealogy is a fascinating study of 26 generations of the family from 1293 to the present. This work is the collaboration of descendants of the three children of Leucas, ninth child of Tierck Clafsen DeWitt. American Ambassador Lester DeWitt Ballor of UEL descent obtained a copy from The Royal Library of the Hague of Beschayving DerStad Dordrecht by Mattys Balen, Jans Zoon published in 1677. This information provided the first thirteen generations in Holland. He also received a 32-page copy of a lawsuit in 1684 by Jan DeWitt on behalf of his brother Tierck for rent owned by Pieter Janz, their sister Faelde's husband. The property was land inherited by Tierck from his father Nicholaas. It provided information on her mother Taetje Cornelisz, her father, brothers and their shipyard.

The Ermatingers

The Ermatingers PDF Author: W. Brian Stewart
Publisher: UBC Press
ISBN: 0774840706
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 223

Book Description
In about 1800, fur trader Charles Ermatinger married an Obijwa woman, Mananowe. Their three sons grew up with both their mother's hunter/warrior culture and their father's European culture. As adults, they lived adventurously in Montreal and St Thomas, where they were accepted and loved by fellow citizens while publicly retaining their Ojibwa heritage. The Ermatingers contrasts the "European" commercial and trading society in urban Montreal, where Charles was brought up, with the Ojibwa hunter/warrior values of Mananowe's society. Their sons variously risked life at war in Spain and in the Upper and Lower Canada rebellions, policed Montreal streets in an era of riots, spied on the Fenians on the US border, and made a hazardous journey to help establish the Canadian Pacific Railway's route. Brian Stewart argues that the sons' Ojibwa traditions and values shaped their adult lives: during their adventures, the sons fought for Native rights for themselves as well as for Ojibwa relatives and friends. The Ermatingers is an exciting story that contributes to our understanding of Indian and European biculturalism and its effects on those who make up the various forms of Mtis society today. It will appeal to general readers as well as scholars and students in Native studies and Canadian history.
