Nonlinear Maps and their Applications

Nonlinear Maps and their Applications PDF Author: Clara Grácio
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461491614
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 175

Book Description
In the field of Dynamical Systems, nonlinear iterative processes play an important role. Nonlinear mappings can be found as immediate models for many systems from different scientific areas, such as engineering, economics, biology, or can also be obtained via numerical methods permitting to solve non-linear differential equations. In both cases, the understanding of specific dynamical behaviors and phenomena is of the greatest interest for scientists. This volume contains papers that were presented at the International Workshop on Nonlinear Maps and their Applications (NOMA 2011) held in Évora, Portugal, on September 15-16, 2011. This kind of collaborative effort is of paramount importance in promoting communication among the various groups that work in dynamical systems and networks in their research theoretical studies as well as for applications. This volume is suitable for graduate students as well as researchers in the field.

Linear and Nonlinear Functional Analysis with Applications

Linear and Nonlinear Functional Analysis with Applications PDF Author: Philippe G. Ciarlet
Publisher: SIAM
ISBN: 1611972582
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 847

Book Description
This single-volume textbook covers the fundamentals of linear and nonlinear functional analysis, illustrating most of the basic theorems with numerous applications to linear and nonlinear partial differential equations and to selected topics from numerical analysis and optimization theory. This book has pedagogical appeal because it features self-contained and complete proofs of most of the theorems, some of which are not always easy to locate in the literature or are difficult to reconstitute. It also offers 401 problems and 52 figures, plus historical notes and many original references that provide an idea of the genesis of the important results, and it covers most of the core topics from functional analysis.

Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos

Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos PDF Author: Steven H. Strogatz
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 0429961111
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 532

Book Description
This textbook is aimed at newcomers to nonlinear dynamics and chaos, especially students taking a first course in the subject. The presentation stresses analytical methods, concrete examples, and geometric intuition. The theory is developed systematically, starting with first-order differential equations and their bifurcations, followed by phase plane analysis, limit cycles and their bifurcations, and culminating with the Lorenz equations, chaos, iterated maps, period doubling, renormalization, fractals, and strange attractors.

Set Valued Mappings with Applications in Nonlinear Analysis

Set Valued Mappings with Applications in Nonlinear Analysis PDF Author: Donal O'Regan
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9780203216491
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 498

Book Description
Interest in the mathematical analysis of multi-functions has increased rapidly over the past thirty years, partly because of its applications in fields such as biology, control theory and optimization, economics, game theory, and physics. Set Valued Mappings with Applications to Nonlinear Analysis contains 29 research articles from leading mathematicians in this area. The contributors were invited to submit papers on topics such as integral inclusion, ordinary and partial differential inclusions, fixed point theorems, boundary value problems, and optimal control. This collection will be of interest to researchers in analysis and will pave the way for the creation of new mathematics in the future.

Theory and Applications of Coupled Map Lattices

Theory and Applications of Coupled Map Lattices PDF Author: K. Kaneko
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 208

Book Description
The technique of the coupled map lattice (CML) is a rapidly developing field in nonlinear dynamics at present. This book gives a fully illustrative overview of current research in the field. A CML is a dynamical system in which there is some interaction ('coupled') between continuous state elements, which evolve in discrete time ('map') and are distributed on a discrete space ('lattice'). This book investigates both the theoretical aspects and applications of CMLs to spatially extended systems in nonlinear dynamical systems.

The (1+ 1)-nonlinear Universe Of The Parabolic Map And Combinatorics

The (1+ 1)-nonlinear Universe Of The Parabolic Map And Combinatorics PDF Author: James D Louck
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9814632430
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 192

Book Description
This monograph develops chaos theory from properties of the graphs inverse to the parabolic map of the interval [0, 2], where the height at the midpoint x = 1 may be viewed as a time-like parameter, which together with the x-coordinate, provide the two parameters that uniquely characterize the parabola, and which are used throughout the monograph. There is only one basic mathematical operation used: function composition. The functions studied are the n-fold composition of the basic parabola with itself. However, it is the properties of the graph inverse to this n-fold composition that are the objects whose properties are developed. The reflection symmetry of the basic parabola through the vertical line x = 1 gives rise to two symmetry classes of inverse graphs: the inverse graphs and their conjugates. Quite remarkably, it turns out that there exists, among all the inverse graphs and their conjugates, a completely deterministic class of inverse graphs and their conjugates. Deterministic in the sense that this class is uniquely determined for all values of the time-like parameter and the x-coordinate, the entire theory, of course, being highly nonlinear — it is polynomial in the time-like parameter and in the x-coordinate. The deterministic property and its implementation are key to the argument that the system is a complex adaptive system in the sense that a few axioms lead to structures of unexpected richness. This monograph is about working out the many details that advance the notion that deterministic chaos theory, as realized by a complex adaptive system, is indeed a new body of mathematics that enriches our understanding of the world around us. But now the imagination is also opened to the possibility that the real universe is a complex adaptive system.* deceased
