Nonlinear Photonic Crystals

Nonlinear Photonic Crystals PDF Author: Richart E. Slusher
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3662051443
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 382

Book Description
Nonlinear optical studies of periodic dielectric structures have blossomed in the past two decades. New fabrication techniques are producing fiber grating and multidimensional photonic crystals in materials where the refractive index can be varied by light pulses and beams. Gap solitons that can propagate at any velocity from zero to the speed of light and spatial solitons that prevent the diffractive spread of light in waveguide arrays are two examples of the new phenomena described in this book. Many new materials and structures are being developed that will impact new optical devices with applications in optical communications and optical data processing. All the above topics are addressed in detail in this book.

Plasmonics: Theory and Applications

Plasmonics: Theory and Applications PDF Author: Tigran V. Shahbazyan
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9400778058
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 581

Book Description
This contributed volume summarizes recent theoretical developments in plasmonics and its applications in physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, and medicine. It focuses on recent advances in several major areas of plasmonics including plasmon-enhanced spectroscopies, light scattering, many-body effects, nonlinear optics, and ultrafast dynamics. The theoretical and computational methods used in these investigations include electromagnetic calculations, density functional theory calculations, and nonequilibrium electron dynamics calculations. The book presents a comprehensive overview of these methods as well as their applications to various current problems of interest.

Computational Methods in Solid State Physics

Computational Methods in Solid State Physics PDF Author: V V Nemoshkalenko
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9789056990947
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 272

Book Description
The combination of theoretical physics methods, numerical mathematics and computers has given rise to a new field of physics known as "computational physics." The purpose of this monograph is to present the various methods of computational physics, in particular the methods of band theory. The first chapter of the book provides an introduction to the field and presents the theoretical foundations of band theory. In the second and third chapters the authors describe both traditional and more modern methods of band theory and include practical recommendations for their use. Methods which are discussed include APW (augmented plane wave), Green's function method, LMTO (linear method of MT- orbitals), LKKR (linear Korringer, Kohn and Rostocker method), LAPW (linear augmented plane wave), ASW (augmented spherical waves), and LASO (linear method of augmented Slater orbitals). Great attention is paid to the practical aspects of these theories and the book is structured in such a way as to enable the reader to use any method in practice without reference to other sources.

Ferroelectric Materials and Ferroelectricity

Ferroelectric Materials and Ferroelectricity PDF Author: T. F. Connolly
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1475706987
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 692

Book Description
This volume is a joint effort of the Research Materials Information Center (RMIC) of the Solid State Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the Libraries and Information Systems Center at Bell Telephone Laboratories (BTL) Murray Hill, N. J. The Research Materials Information Center has, since 1963, been answering inquiries on the avail ability, preparation, and properties of inorganic solid-state research materials. The preparation of bibliographies has been essential to this function, and the interest in ferroelectrics led to the compila tion of the journal and report literature on that subject. The 1962 book Ferroelectric Crystals, by Jona and Shirane, was taken as a cutoff point, and all papers through mid-1969 received by the Center have been included. The Libraries and Information Systems Center of BTL has, over a period of years, developed a proprie tary package of computer programs called BELDEX, which formats and generates indexes to biblio graphic material. This group therefore undertook to process RMIC's ferroelectric references by BELDEX so that both laboratories could have the benefit of an indexed basic bibliography in this important research area.
