The First Landau Institute Summer School, 1993

The First Landau Institute Summer School, 1993 PDF Author: Vladimir P. Mineev
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9782884491389
Category : Music
Languages : en
Pages : 306

Book Description
The papers from these proceedings have been selected for their timeliness and relevance to the modern physics community. Topics covered include theory of high Tc superconductors and superconductivity in heavy Fermion systems, turbulence, spin glasses, fluctuations and phase transitions, and electron-electron correlations. The educational emphasis should be valuable to the advanced graduate student as well as to many practicing researchers. In July 1993 the Landau Institute for Theoretical Physics hosted its first summer school for students of theoretical physics. The book is the result of this collaboration by many of Russia's top scientists to bring an extensive modern treatment of their work to an international audience of students and colleagues in the physical sciences.

Instabilities, Chaos and Turbulence

Instabilities, Chaos and Turbulence PDF Author: Paul Manneville
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9781860944833
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 416

Book Description
This book is an introduction to the application of nonlinear dynamics to problems of stability, chaos and turbulence arising in continuous media and their connection to dynamical systems. With an emphasis on the understanding of basic concepts, it should be of interest to nearly any science-oriented undergraduate and potentially to anyone who wants to learn about recent advances in the field of applied nonlinear dynamics. Technicalities are, however, not completely avoided. They are instead explained as simply as possible using heuristic arguments and specific worked examples.

Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos

Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos PDF Author: Steven H. Strogatz
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 0429961111
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 532

Book Description
This textbook is aimed at newcomers to nonlinear dynamics and chaos, especially students taking a first course in the subject. The presentation stresses analytical methods, concrete examples, and geometric intuition. The theory is developed systematically, starting with first-order differential equations and their bifurcations, followed by phase plane analysis, limit cycles and their bifurcations, and culminating with the Lorenz equations, chaos, iterated maps, period doubling, renormalization, fractals, and strange attractors.

Advances In Wave Turbulence

Advances In Wave Turbulence PDF Author: Victor Shrira
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9814520802
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 294

Book Description
Wave or weak turbulence is a branch of science concerned with the evolution of random wave fields of all kinds and on all scales, from waves in galaxies to capillary waves on water surface, from waves in nonlinear optics to quantum fluids. In spite of the enormous diversity of wave fields in nature, there is a common conceptual and mathematical core which allows to describe the processes of random wave interactions within the same conceptual paradigm, and in the same language. The development of this core and its links with the applications is the essence of wave turbulence science (WT) which is an established integral part of nonlinear science. The book comprising seven reviews aims at discussing new challenges in WT and perspectives of its development. A special emphasis is made upon the links between the theory and experiment. Each of the reviews is devoted to a particular field of application (there is no overlap), or a novel approach or idea. The reviews cover a variety of applications of WT, including water waves, optical fibers, WT experiments on a metal plate and observations of astrophysical WT.
