Book Description
This book is devoted to some aspects of the theory of strong electromagnetic wave-plasma interaction. The various nonlinear mechanisms of the steady-state electrical and magnetic field generation by an electromagnetic wave in a plasma are considered. The theory of the nonreflective propagation of an electromagnetic wave through a dense plasma is developed. The results of the nonlinear theory of fast plasma waves excitation by single and double-frequency electromagnetic pulses in rare plasma are presented. The method of electron acceleration by laser radiation is discussed. Plasma synergetics including nonstationary structures are studied. The influence of plasma motion on the generation of fast particles and harmonics is investigated. It is shown that the electrical field amplitude near the critical density layer for a wave propagating towards the supersonic plasma stream is limited and it decreases with increase of plasma inhomogeneity length.

New Topics in Theoretical Physics
Author: Henk F. Arnoldus
Publisher: Nova Publishers
ISBN: 9781600213557
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 100
Book Description
Although the various branches of physics differ in their experimental methods and theoretical approaches, certain general principles apply to all of them. The forefront of contemporary advances in physics lies in the submicroscopic regime, whether it be in atomic, nuclear, condensed-matter, plasma, or particle physics, or in quantum optics, or even in the study of stellar structure. All are based upon quantum theory (i.e: quantum mechanics and quantum field theory) and relativity, which together form the theoretical foundations of modern physics. Many physical quantities whose classical counterparts vary continuously over a range of possible values are in quantum theory constrained to have discontinuous, or discrete, values. The intrinsically deterministic character of classical physics is replaced in quantum theory by intrinsic uncertainty. According to quantum theory, electromagnetic radiation does not always consist of continuous waves; instead it must be viewed under some circumstances as a collection of particle-like photons, the energy and momentum of each being directly proportional to its frequency (or inversely proportional to its wavelength, the photons still possessing some wavelike characteristics). This book presents state-of-the-art research from around the world.

On the Structure of Physical Vacuum and a New Interaction in Nature (theory, Experiment, Applications)
Author: I︠U︡. A. Baurov
Publisher: Nova Publishers
ISBN: 9781560728054
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 238
Book Description
In the book, an unconventional physical model of creation of the observed physical space from a finite set of special discrete objects, byuons is presented. The global space anisotropy associated with a cosmological vectorial potential appearing in the definition of byuons, as well as a new interaction due to this anisotropy, are predicted. Results of an experimental investigation of the proposed new interaction are given. A new method of power production based on the new interaction, as well as a new principle of motion of objects in nature with the use of physical space as a support medium, are advanced. The book is intended for the general reading public, physicists (theorists and experimenters), astrophysicists, engineers (specialists in space technology and power engineering), and physical students.

Quantum Dots
Author: Peter A. Ling
Publisher: Nova Publishers
ISBN: 9781594544064
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 278
Book Description
A quantum dot is a particle of matter so small that the addition or removal of an electron changes its properties in some useful way. All atoms are quantum dots, but multi-molecular combinations can have this characteristic. In biochemistry, quantum dots are called redox groups. In nanotechnology, they are called quantum bits or qubits. Quantum dots typically have dimensions measured in nanometers, where one nanometer is 10-9 meter or a millionth of a millimetre. The fields of biology, chemistry, computer science, and electronics are all of interest to researchers in nanotechnology. Other applications of quantum dots include nanomachines, neural networks, and high-density memory or storage media. Research is being carried out on nano-crystals, self-assembled dots, and gated structures. This book presents leading-edge research from around the world.
