Noam Chomsky - a world renowned linguist, philosopher and outspoken critic of US foreign policy and the media - has consistently written and spoken about the dangers of the nexus between US imperialism and Neo-liberalism. This book explores if the experiences of 'social activists' in India corroborate major tenets of Chomsky's discourse on globalization and US imperialism. The work, although stems primarily from the area of professional social work, is interdisciplinary in nature and would be of interest to anyone interested in understanding the dynamics and politics of development in India.

Book Description
It is very natural and expected that any professional in any area of specialisation gets some sudden doubt or needs clarification on any issue. More particularly in the area of legal compliance or even while seeking or providing clarification to anyone, including colleagues and superiors. We continue to live in an era of the plethora of labour legislations, that too varied interpretations under judicial pronouncements. And many times, we need fast and quick inputs. And it is our experience that when we get or know the clarifying answer assertively, most problems get solved in a matter of seconds. Whenever I conduct sessions on Labour Laws, I conclude with a set of objective tests to evaluate and or to further clarify the doubts which have shown positive indications. In teaching in Management Schools, MBA, MSW, and Law, the faculty must be equipped with precise answers and even administering tests and evaluations. Now, all of us are aware of the upcoming new Four Labour Codes. Many of us, start asking ourselves, what are the answers in the Four Labour Codes and a comparative clarification? Keeping these in view, I conceived an idea and, after a thought-provoking process, to compile all possible questions and precise answers in respect of all labour legislations as also under the four Labour Codes. I am sure this would help everyone to get a comparative answer and/or clarifications simultaneously. I have been to compile around 600 questions covering 22 labour legislations, including “Management of Discipline “. The answers cover under present labour legislations as well as under Four Labour Codes. I have tried to substantiate the answers based on judicial views/judgements wherever possible. I am sure this book – FAQs & ANSWERS covering the Labour Legislations, will be a handy reckoner, a handbook to the HR Fraternity, Faculty and Students of management schools, MBA, MSW & Law. Colonization Or Globalization?

Colonization Or Globalization? PDF Author: Silvia Nagy-Zekmi
Publisher: Rowman & Littlefield
ISBN: 9780739131763
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 192

Book Description
This book presents new scholarship on the subject of imperial expansion through colonization and globalization from a variety of postcolonial perspectives. The chapters in this volume, grouped in three sections, scrutinize imperial expansion within the context of national identities and imageries-deconstructing the modernist and utopian idea of a nation as a site of homogeneity, and reviewing the importance of the concept in the different phases of colonization. Hence the first section, entitled Neo-Imperial Traces or Premonitions in Modernism. The postclassical phase of colonialism is examined through the representation of the colonized and the once-colonized. Applying postcolonial theories and often moving beyond them, scholars scrutinize such textual and filmic representations as exemplified in Asia. These make up section 2, Interference of the Imperial Tradition in Asia, which allows for the rearticulations of cultural heritage in the region within the different and ever-renewed schemes of imperial expansion Section 3, Reformulations of the Imperial Project, seeks to explore the questions surrounding inclusion in, and exclusion from, the realm of power as the founding principle of empire, suggesting that they are discursive and deliberate. Postcolonial societies inherit the trauma of colonialism that subjected people to a cultural displacement that is exacerbated by renewed efforts of imperial Influence through globalization. Because We Say So

Because We Say So PDF Author: Noam Chomsky
Publisher: Penguin UK
ISBN: 0241972477
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 304

Book Description
Because We Say So is Noam Chomsky's essential counter punch to American hegemony. In 1962, the eminent statesman Dean Acheson enunciated a principle that has dominated global politics ever since: that no legal issue arises when the United States responds to a challenge to its 'power, position, and prestige'. In short, whatever the world may think, U.S. actions are legitimate because they say so. Spanning the impact of Edward Snowden's whistleblowing and Palestinian-Israeli relations to deeper reflections on political philosophy and the importance of a commons to democracy, Because We Say So takes American imperialism head on. 'Noam Chomsky is one of a small band of individuals fighting a whole industry. And that makes him not only brilliant, but heroic' Arundhati Roy 'The world's greatest public intellectual' Observer

The History of Human Rights

The History of Human Rights PDF Author: Micheline Ishay
Publisher: Univ of California Press
ISBN: 0520934911
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 475

Book Description
Micheline Ishay recounts the dramatic struggle for human rights across the ages in a book that brilliantly synthesizes historical and intellectual developments from the Mesopotamian Codes of Hammurabi to today's era of globalization. As she chronicles the clash of social movements, ideas, and armies that have played a part in this struggle, Ishay illustrates how the history of human rights has evolved from one era to the next through texts, cultural traditions, and creative expression. Writing with verve and extraordinary range, she develops a framework for understanding contemporary issues from the debate over globalization to the intervention in Kosovo to the climate for human rights after September 11, 2001. The only comprehensive history of human rights available, the book will be essential reading for anyone concerned with humankind's quest for justice and dignity. Ishay structures her chapters around six core questions that have shaped human rights debate and scholarship: What are the origins of human rights? Why did the European vision of human rights triumph over those of other civilizations? Has socialism made a lasting contribution to the legacy of human rights? Are human rights universal or culturally bound? Must human rights be sacrificed to the demands of national security? Is globalization eroding or advancing human rights? As she explores these questions, Ishay also incorporates notable documents—writings, speeches, and political statements—from activists, writers, and thinkers throughout history.
