Wheat-soybean Double-crop Management in Missouri

Wheat-soybean Double-crop Management in Missouri PDF Author: Harry C. Minor
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Double cropping
Languages : en
Pages : 4

Book Description
Double-cropping soybeans after winter wheat has grown in popularity and feasibility in much of Missouri. This cropping system has several advantages. A crop, growing on the land all year, provides control of soil erosion. Spreading annual fixed costs such as land, taxes and machinery over two crops instead of one may increase gross returns per acre with relatively low increases in production costs. Thus profits per acre may be increased. This publication provides guidance in establishing a successful wheat-soybean double crop.

Pages : 248

Book Description
Cover crops slow erosion, improve soil, smother weeds, enhance nutrient and moisture availability, help control many pests and bring a host of other benefits to your farm. At the same time, they can reduce costs, increase profits and even create new sources of income. You¿ll reap dividends on your cover crop investments for years, since their benefits accumulate over the long term. This book will help you find which ones are right for you. Captures farmer and other research results from the past ten years. The authors verified the info. from the 2nd ed., added new results and updated farmer profiles and research data, and added 2 chap. Includes maps and charts, detailed narratives about individual cover crop species, and chap. about aspects of cover cropping.

Relay- and Double-crop Production Systems for Wheat

Relay- and Double-crop Production Systems for Wheat PDF Author: Leah N. Sandler
Publisher:

Category : Cover crops

Pages : 183

Book Description
Cover crops are important to provide organic matter to soils, diversify cropping systems, and provide economic benefits if the correct cropping systems are utilized. Relay-intercrop production involves overlapping growth cycles of two or more crops. This production system is common with legumes seeded into small grains; however, the companion crops may compete for water, nutrients, and sunlight, which may slow development of either crop. Relay-intercropped soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] production involves seeding wheat in the fall and an intercrop seeding of soybeans into standing wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). This cropping system has been proposed to reduce risk associated with double-crop soybean production, move double-crop production farther north, and increase farm profitability. Diversifying crops used in these cropping systems may allow farmers more crop production choices. Double-cropping may also be an alternative to avoid competition for resources among intercrops. Field research was needed to determine what alternative crops would be successful in various cropping systems. The objectives of this research were to 1) determine the feasibility of intercropping alternative crops into standing wheat, 2) observe the effect of wheat row spacing on wheat and alternative crop yields, 3) evaluate the effects of intercropping and double-crop planting dates on alternative crops, and 4) evaluate double-crop planting dates of oil seed radishes on winter annual weed suppression and corn yields.

Plant Biotechnology

Plant Biotechnology PDF Author: Agnès Ricroch
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030683451
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 297

Book Description
Written in easy to follow language, the book presents cutting-edge agriculturally relevant plant biotechnologies and applications in a manner that is accessible to all. This book updates and introduces the scope and method of plant biotechnologies and molecular breeding within the context of environmental analysis and assessment, a diminishing supply of productive arable land, scarce water resources and climate change. New plant breeding techniques including CRISPR-cas system are now tools to meet these challenges both in developed countries and in developing countries. Ethical issues, intellectual property rights, regulation policies in various countries related to agricultural biotechnology are examined. The rapid developments in plant biotechnology are explained to a large audience with relevant examples. New varieties of crops can be adapted to new climatic conditions in order to reduce pest-associated losses and the adverse abiotic effects
