He graduated from Smithfield High, Wake Forest University, and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was licensed and ordained into the ministry by the Smithfield First Baptist Church. While attending Wake Forest University, he met a student, Lucille Mabry, of Albemarle, nc. They were married in 1950 and later became the parents of Jennifer Myers, Brasstown, nc; Charles A.
