The 'Belt and Road' initiative announced by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013 aims at reviving the ancient trade routes connecting China to Europe and Africa: the '21st Century Maritime Silk Road' and the inland 'Silk Road Economic Belt'. The purpose of this report is to provide a comparative perspective of China's 'One Belt, One Road' initiative (OBOR), as seen from the various European Union (EU) member states. The Chinese leadership of cially launched this framework in autumn 2013, presenting it immediately as a key national concept and foreign policy priority for the years to come.
