This thesis describes the search for Dark Matter at the LHC in the mono-jet plus missing transverse momentum final state, using the full dataset recorded in 2012 by the ATLAS Experiment. It is the first time that the number of jets is not explicitly restricted to one or two, thus increasing the sensitivity to new signals. Instead, a balance between the most energetic jet and the missing transverse momentum is required, thus selecting mono-jet-like final states. Collider searches for Dark Matter have typically used signal models employing effective field theories (EFTs), even when comparing to results from direct and indirect detection experiments, where the difference in energy scale renders many such comparisons invalid. The thesis features the first robust and comprehensive treatment of the validity of EFTs in collider searches, and provides a means by which the different classifications of Dark Matter experiments can be compared on a sound and fair basis.

Large-scale neutrino telescopes will be powerful toolsto observe multitude of mysterious phenomena happening in the Universe. The dark matter puzzle is listed as one of them. In this study, indirect detection of dark matter vianeutrino signals is presented. The upward muon, the contained muonand the hadronic shower fluxesare calculated, assuming annihilation/decay of the dark matter in thecore of the astrophysical objects and in the Galactic center. Direct neutrino production and secondary neutrino production from thedecay of Standard Model particles produced in the annihilation/decay of dark matter are studied. The results are contrastedto the ones previously obtained in the literature, illustrating the importance of properly treating muon propagation andenergy loss for the upward muon flux. The dependence ofthe dark matter signals on the density profile, the dark matter mass and the detector threshold are discussed. Different dark matter models (gravitino, Kaluza-Klein and leptophilic) which can account for recent observations ofsome indirect searchesare analyzed regarding their detection in the kilometer size neutrino detectors in the near future. The solar neutrino puzzle and the question: What happens to the neutrinos on their way from the sun to the earth? 2. A vast number of independent astrophysical and cosmological observations suggest that the dominant form of matter in the Universe, known as dark matter, is neither luminous nor baryonic. Despite nearly half a decade of research, the non-gravitational nature of dark matter, if any, remains a mystery. Motivated primarily by preferred theoretical extensions of the Standard Model and a relatively simple production mechanism, the weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) has long been considered to be among the most appealing dark matter particle candidates. This dissertation is comprised of largely independent works that focus on understanding and constraining various signals that could arise from WIMP dark matter. Specifically, Chapters 2 and 3 address the impact that non-standard astrophysics and particle physics could have on the observed scattering rate in direct dark matter detection experiments; Chapter 4 presents a halo-dependent and an halo-independent update on the viability of a dark matter interpretation of the CDMS-II-Si data; Chapter 5 generalizes the halo-independent analysis formalism such that the compatibility of multiple experiments can be assessed, and the preferred halo-independent parameter space can be identified, for global likelihoods comprised of at least one extended likelihood; Chapter 6 discusses the prospects for detecting gamma-rays from dark matter annihilating in local dark matter subahlos; Chapter 7 presents updated constraints on simplified dark matter models that are consistent with the Galactic Center excess; and Chapter 8 discusses the extent to which future direct detection experiments may be able to elucidate the high-energy dark matter theory from observations of low-energy nuclear recoils.
