New Methods for Predicting Nonlinear Lift, Center of Pressure, and Pitching Moment on Middile Configurations

New Methods for Predicting Nonlinear Lift, Center of Pressure, and Pitching Moment on Middile Configurations PDF Author: Frankie Gale Moore
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Angle of attack (Aerodynamics).
Languages : en
Pages : 192

Book Description
A new semiempirical method has been developed to predict normal force, pitching moment, and center of pressure on missile configurations up to angles of attack of 30° The method is based on linear theory and slender body techniques at low angle of attack and uses wind tunnel data to derive nonlinear angle-of-attack corrections as angle of attack increaces. The new improved theories include body alone, wing alone, and body-wing and wing-body interference. While the new theory is databased, simple analytical formulas are derived that allow general use of the techniques. Comparison with the linearized approaches used in the former NSWCDD aeroprediction code shows singificant reductions in errors of aerodynamics above 5° to 10° angle of attack. Limited comparisons to other state-of-the-art engineering codes show the new theory to be as good as or better than anything known to be available for computing planar aerodynamics up to 30° angle of attack.

Missile Aerodynamics

Missile Aerodynamics PDF Author: Jack Norman Nielsen
Publisher: AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics)
ISBN: 9780962062902
Category : Guided missiles
Languages : en
Pages : 450

Book Description
The similarities between the airplane and the missile extend beyond their flying capabilities, and at higher operational speeds, the configuration distinctions become even less apparent. " Missile Aerodynamics," a classic now available from AIAA and Nielsen Engineering and Research, Inc., combines the best of missile and airplane aerodynamics, drawing extensively from numerous technical papers to present a rational and unified account of the principles behind missile projection. Evaluate the missile versus the airplane in a multitude of areas, from longitudinal acceleration, wing loading, roll and dynamic stability, guidance and navigation, and more. J.N. Nielsen covers every aspect of missile aerodynamics, from the classification of missiles and basic formulas to innovative aerodynamic controls. In one reliable reference, readers will find hundreds of schematics, equations, and tables with practical applications in missile design and engineering.
