Muster-out rolls, with index, for the four New Jersey National Guard regiments (1st-4th) formed at the outbreak of the Spanish-American War, arranged by regiment and thereunder by company. Each regimental list begins with field and staff (including quartermasters, surgeons, and musicians), listed by rank and then aplhabetically, followed by rolls of officers and men for each company. The rolls were made using pre-printed forms recording name, rank, enrollment and muster data, pay information, monies due the U.S., disciplinary actions, etc., also including a pay account section for each man (not always filled out), signatures of the commanding and mustering officers, and "Record of Events" with a chronology of the company's activities. After completion of the rolls, a copy was retained by the company commander, two copies sent to the paymaster, and one each to the Adjutant-General of New Jersey and Adjutant-General of the U.S.
