New Frontiers in Materials Processing Training and Learning

New Frontiers in Materials Processing Training and Learning PDF Author: M. Marcos
Publisher: Trans Tech Publications Ltd
ISBN: 3038132462
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 124

Book Description
Materials processing engineering is currently considered to be an interdisciplinary engineering field. Learning and training in materials processing must therefore be accompanied by diverse sets of workshops and practical laboratory experiments. In general, the equipment which is required to be available in these laboratories or workshops is very expensive and can become obsolete within a few years. On the other hand, the continual evolution of materials inevitably drives change. However, innovative education techniques, based upon information and communications technologies, are currently under development, with the aim of improving the teaching of materials processing. Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS).

Frontiers of Materials Research

Frontiers of Materials Research PDF Author: National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
Publisher: National Academies Press
ISBN: 0309483875
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 295

Book Description
Modern materials science builds on knowledge from physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, computer and data science, and engineering sciences to enable us to understand, control, and expand the material world. Although it is anchored in inquiry-based fundamental science, materials research is strongly focused on discovering and producing reliable and economically viable materials, from super alloys to polymer composites, that are used in a vast array of products essential to today's societies and economies. Frontiers of Materials Research: A Decadal Survey is aimed at documenting the status and promising future directions of materials research in the United States in the context of similar efforts worldwide. This third decadal survey in materials research reviews the progress and achievements in materials research and changes in the materials research landscape over the last decade; research opportunities for investment for the period 2020-2030; impacts that materials research has had and is expected to have on emerging technologies, national needs, and science; and challenges the enterprise may face over the next decade.

New Frontiers in Photochromism

New Frontiers in Photochromism PDF Author: Masahiro Irie
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 4431542914
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 298

Book Description
Photochromism is the reversible phototransformation of a chemical species between two forms having different absorption spectra. During the phototransformation not only the absorption spectra but also various physicochemical properties change, such as the refractive index, dielectric constant, oxidation/reduction potential, and geometrical structure. The property changes can be applied to photonic equipment such as erasable memory media, photo-optical switch components, and display devices. This book compiles the accomplishments of the research project titled “New Frontiers in Photochromism” supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan. The project focused not only on the above-mentioned classical subjects in photochromism, such as color changes, optical memory, and optical switches, but also on fundamental physicochemical studies and unprecedented application fields that have not yet been explored in photochromism. The latter topics include light-driven mechanical motion, photocontrol of surface wettability, metal deposition on solid materials, photocontrol of chiral properties, ultrafast decoloration dyes, and femtosecond laser experiments, among others.
