Evolution of Morals

Evolution of Morals PDF Author: Carlos Stegmann
Publisher: BoD – Books on Demand
ISBN: 3752636963
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 282

Book Description
Carlos Stegmann is a civil engineer whose disposition always led him to have a main interest in the multidisciplinary overview of large and complex planning studies, a subject on which he accumulated a 40-year experience, having acted as coordinator of many such studies. It was this diposition, this innate tendency always to strive for the composite whole, and the application of his experience to the subject of morals, which originated the interdisciplinary insights of his thesis of moral evolution, which is the subject of this book. It is important to stress this interdisciplinary experience, for to be able to produce credible results, an attempt to explain something as pervadingly inclusive as human behavior must include all the manifestations of this behavior, from the cognitive to the physiological. No other work on human morals offers such an interdisciplinary approach, and the inquiry presented in this book may be considered the first of this kind.

Design Justice

Design Justice PDF Author: Sasha Costanza-Chock
Publisher: MIT Press
ISBN: 0262043459
Category : Design
Languages : en
Pages : 358

Book Description
An exploration of how design might be led by marginalized communities, dismantle structural inequality, and advance collective liberation and ecological survival. What is the relationship between design, power, and social justice? “Design justice” is an approach to design that is led by marginalized communities and that aims expilcitly to challenge, rather than reproduce, structural inequalities. It has emerged from a growing community of designers in various fields who work closely with social movements and community-based organizations around the world. This book explores the theory and practice of design justice, demonstrates how universalist design principles and practices erase certain groups of people—specifically, those who are intersectionally disadvantaged or multiply burdened under the matrix of domination (white supremacist heteropatriarchy, ableism, capitalism, and settler colonialism)—and invites readers to “build a better world, a world where many worlds fit; linked worlds of collective liberation and ecological sustainability.” Along the way, the book documents a multitude of real-world community-led design practices, each grounded in a particular social movement. Design Justice goes beyond recent calls for design for good, user-centered design, and employment diversity in the technology and design professions; it connects design to larger struggles for collective liberation and ecological survival.

Planning in the Public Domain

Planning in the Public Domain PDF Author: John Friedmann
Publisher: Princeton University Press
ISBN: 069121400X
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 514

Book Description
John Friedmann addresses a central question of Western political theory: how, and to what extent, history can be guided by reason. In this comprehensive treatment of the relation of knowledge to action, which he calls planning, he traces the major intellectual traditions of planning thought and practice. Three of these--social reform, policy analysis, and social learning--are primarily concerned with public management. The fourth, social mobilization, draws on utopianism, anarchism, historical materialism, and other radical thought and looks to the structural transformation of society "from below." After developing a basic vocabulary in Part One, the author proceeds in Part Two to a critical history of each of the four planning traditions. The story begins with the prophetic visions of Saint-Simon and assesses the contributions of such diverse thinkers as Comte, Marx, Dewey, Mannheim, Tugwell, Mumford, Simon, and Habermas. It is carried forward in Part Three by Friedmann's own nontechnocratic, dialectical approach to planning as a method for recovering political community.
