Integrable Systems and Algebraic Geometry: Volume 1

Integrable Systems and Algebraic Geometry: Volume 1 PDF Author: Ron Donagi
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 110880358X
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 421

Book Description
Created as a celebration of mathematical pioneer Emma Previato, this comprehensive book highlights the connections between algebraic geometry and integrable systems, differential equations, mathematical physics, and many other areas. The authors, many of whom have been at the forefront of research into these topics for the last decades, have all been influenced by Previato's research, as her collaborators, students, or colleagues. The diverse articles in the book demonstrate the wide scope of Previato's work and the inclusion of several survey and introductory articles makes the text accessible to graduate students and non-experts, as well as researchers. This first volume covers a wide range of areas related to integrable systems, often emphasizing the deep connections with algebraic geometry. Common themes include theta functions and Abelian varieties, Lax equations, integrable hierarchies, Hamiltonian flows and difference operators. These powerful tools are applied to spinning top, Hitchin, Painleve and many other notable special equations.

Topological Recursion and its Influence in Analysis, Geometry, and Topology

Topological Recursion and its Influence in Analysis, Geometry, and Topology PDF Author: Chiu-Chu Melissa Liu
Publisher: American Mathematical Soc.
ISBN: 1470435411
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 578

Book Description
This volume contains the proceedings of the 2016 AMS von Neumann Symposium on Topological Recursion and its Influence in Analysis, Geometry, and Topology, which was held from July 4–8, 2016, at the Hilton Charlotte University Place, Charlotte, North Carolina. The papers contained in the volume present a snapshot of rapid and rich developments in the emerging research field known as topological recursion. It has its origin around 2004 in random matrix theory and also in Mirzakhani's work on the volume of moduli spaces of hyperbolic surfaces. Topological recursion has played a fundamental role in connecting seemingly unrelated areas of mathematics such as matrix models, enumeration of Hurwitz numbers and Grothendieck's dessins d'enfants, Gromov-Witten invariants, the A-polynomials and colored polynomial invariants of knots, WKB analysis, and quantization of Hitchin moduli spaces. In addition to establishing these topics, the volume includes survey papers on the most recent key accomplishments: discovery of the unexpected relation to semi-simple cohomological field theories and a solution to the remodeling conjecture. It also provides a glimpse into the future research direction; for example, connections with the Airy structures, modular functors, Hurwitz-Frobenius manifolds, and ELSV-type formulas.

Nonarchimedean and Tropical Geometry

Nonarchimedean and Tropical Geometry PDF Author: Matthew Baker
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319309455
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 534

Book Description
This volume grew out of two Simons Symposia on "Nonarchimedean and tropical geometry" which took place on the island of St. John in April 2013 and in Puerto Rico in February 2015. Each meeting gathered a small group of experts working near the interface between tropical geometry and nonarchimedean analytic spaces for a series of inspiring and provocative lectures on cutting edge research, interspersed with lively discussions and collaborative work in small groups. The articles collected here, which include high-level surveys as well as original research, mirror the main themes of the two Symposia. Topics covered in this volume include: Differential forms and currents, and solutions of Monge-Ampere type differential equations on Berkovich spaces and their skeletons; The homotopy types of nonarchimedean analytifications; The existence of "faithful tropicalizations" which encode the topology and geometry of analytifications; Relations between nonarchimedean analytic spaces and algebraic geometry, including logarithmic schemes, birational geometry, and the geometry of algebraic curves; Extended notions of tropical varieties which relate to Huber's theory of adic spaces analogously to the way that usual tropical varieties relate to Berkovich spaces; and Relations between nonarchimedean geometry and combinatorics, including deep and fascinating connections between matroid theory, tropical geometry, and Hodge theory.

Recent Progress on the Donaldson–Thomas Theory

Recent Progress on the Donaldson–Thomas Theory PDF Author: Yukinobu Toda
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 9811678383
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 110

Book Description
This book is an exposition of recent progress on the Donaldson–Thomas (DT) theory. The DT invariant was introduced by R. Thomas in 1998 as a virtual counting of stable coherent sheaves on Calabi–Yau 3-folds. Later, it turned out that the DT invariants have many interesting properties and appear in several contexts such as the Gromov–Witten/Donaldson–Thomas conjecture on curve-counting theories, wall-crossing in derived categories with respect to Bridgeland stability conditions, BPS state counting in string theory, and others. Recently, a deeper structure of the moduli spaces of coherent sheaves on Calabi–Yau 3-folds was found through derived algebraic geometry. These moduli spaces admit shifted symplectic structures and the associated d-critical structures, which lead to refined versions of DT invariants such as cohomological DT invariants. The idea of cohomological DT invariants led to a mathematical definition of the Gopakumar–Vafa invariant, which was first proposed by Gopakumar–Vafa in 1998, but its precise mathematical definition has not been available until recently. This book surveys the recent progress on DT invariants and related topics, with a focus on applications to curve-counting theories.

Pages : 444

Book Description
This volume contains the proceedings of the conference ``Primitive Forms and Related Subjects'', held at the Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (IPMU), University of Tokyo, February 10-14, 2014. The principal aim of the conference was to discuss the current status of rapidly developing subjects related to primitive forms. In particular, Fukaya category, Gromov-Witten and FJRW invariants, mathematical formulation of Landau-Ginzburg models, and mirror symmetry were discussed. The conference had three introductory courses by.experts and 12 lectures on more advanced topics. This volume volume contains two survey articles and 11 research articles based on the conference presentations.
