Catholic Social Thought

Catholic Social Thought PDF Author: Jonathan Boswell
Publisher: Peeters Publishers
ISBN: 9789042909731
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 350

Book Description
These essays are an attempt to recover something of the form, style and force of Catholic non-official social thinking in the face of contemporary social thought and contemporary injustice in advanced societies. After an opening essay by the doyen of Catholic writers in this field, Jean-Yves Calvez, SJ, the book is divided into three sections. The first and largest group of essays discuss patterns and predicaments of Catholic social thought in general terms and from different points of view. The context here is partly the debate on modernity, high-modernity and post-modernity, partly the issue of how far and in what ways Catholic Social Thought can claim to be distinctive, relative to contemporary secular thought. The second section of the book focusses on relationships between Catholic social thought and its restatement, and a number of contemporary debates on public issues. Particular attention is given, in successive essays, to issues of anti-poverty, human rights, economic theory and international finance. A third and shorter section describes a number of institutional projects which attempt to carry Catholic social values forward into concrete action, focussing on work in health and welfare, grass roots economic co-operation, anti-poverty and international peace and justice. Final contributions by the reputed international scholar in this field, John Coleman, SJ, and the book editors, respectively evaluate the collection as a whole and discuss further steps.

Trinity in Unity in Christian-Muslim Relations

Trinity in Unity in Christian-Muslim Relations PDF Author: Risto Jukko
Publisher: BRILL
ISBN: 9047420829
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 376

Book Description
Christian-Muslim relations are one of the major issues in contemporary theology of religions. This book deals with the theological foundations that have been laid for these relations in the recent official documents (1966-2005) of the Secretariat for Non-Christians/the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue. There is a continuous interrelationship in recent Roman Catholic thinking between philosophy (existentialism and personalism) and theology ("nouvelle théologie" and "kerygmatic theology"). This study shows that the doctrine of the Trinitarian nature of God is the cornerstone on which this documentation rests, and that the Trinitarian dimension of Roman Catholic theology of religions will challenge the Christology of 21st century theology.

Mary, God-Bearer to a World in Need

Mary, God-Bearer to a World in Need PDF Author: Maura Hearden Fehlner
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1621899489
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 202

Book Description
All who live yearn for freedom--freedom from political oppression, poverty, disease, crime, war, and misery in all its forms. Christians believe that only God has the infinite wisdom, resources, and will to provide what we so desperately need. The contributors to Mary, God-Bearer to a World in Need offer scholarly explorations of ways in which the woman who bore God Incarnate into human history might help humankind to open its creaturely finitude to God's infinite possibilities. By relating such topics as faith, justice, economics, family life, and interreligious dialogue to Marian doctrine, humanity gains new insights useful for healing society's bleeding wounds. In these essays, the God-Bearer becomes present to a world still very much in need of the divine grace mediated through her motherhood.
