Pages : 368

Book Description
This book provides the experimental condensed-matter researcher with a description of the variety of material characteristics which can now be investigated with polarized neutrons. Included are two extensive chapters on basic theory and currently available instrumentation, and a presentation and discussion of scientific results obtained from a wide range of experiments: diffraction, critical reflection, elastic and inelastic polarization analysis, and neutron spin precession methods like spin-echo spectroscopy.

Neutron Scattering from Magnetic Materials

Neutron Scattering from Magnetic Materials PDF Author: Tapan Chatterji
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080457053
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 574

Book Description
Neutron Scattering from Magnetic Materials is a comprehensive account of the present state of the art in the use of the neutron scattering for the study of magnetic materials. The chapters have been written by well-known researchers who are at the forefront of this field and have contributed directly to the development of the techniques described. Neutron scattering probes magnetic phenomena directly. The generalized magnetic susceptibility, which can be expressed as a function of wave vector and energy, contains all the information there is to know about the statics and dynamics of a magnetic system and this quantity is directly related to the neutron scattering cross section. Polarized neutron scattering techniques raise the sophistication of measurements to even greater levels and gives additional information in many cases. The present book is largely devoted to the application of polarized neutron scattering to the study of magnetic materials. It will be of particular interest to graduate students and researchers who plan to investigate magnetic materials using neutron scattering.· Written by a group of scientist who have contributed directly in developing the techniques described.· A complete treatment of the polarized neutron scattering not available in literature.· Gives practical hits to solve magnetic structure and determine exchange interactions in magnetic solids.· Application of neutron scattering to the study of the novel electronic materials.

Polarized Sources and Targets

Polarized Sources and Targets PDF Author: Tomohiro Uesaka
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9812770658
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 269

Book Description
Polarized beams and targets have been irreplaceable tools in nuclear and particle physics experiments for a long time and have provided us rich information on the role played by spin-degrees of freedom in the sub-nuclear world. In addition, techniques to obtain large nuclear polarization have recently been applied to new fields such as materials and medical sciences. The scope of these proceedings covers recent progress of state-of-the-art techniques in spin polarization, the cryogenic method, the atomic beam method, the optical pumping method and the nuclear reaction method.

High-energy Nuclear Optics of Polarized Particles

High-energy Nuclear Optics of Polarized Particles PDF Author: Vladimir G. Baryshevsky
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9814324833
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 641

Book Description
The various phenomena caused by refraction and diffraction of polarized elementary particles in matter have opened up a new research area in the particle physics: nuclear optics of polarized particles. Effects similar to the well-known optical phenomena such as birefringence and Faraday effects, exist also in particle physics, though the particle wavelength is much less than the distance between atoms of matter. Current knowledge of the quasi-optical effects, which exist for all particles in any wavelength range (and energies from low to extremely high), will enable us to investigate different properties of interacting particles (nuclei) in a new aspect. This pioneering book will provide detailed accounts of quasi-optical phenomena in the particle polarization, and will interest physicists and professionals in experimental particle physics.
