Policy Response, Local Service Delivery, and Governance in Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka

Policy Response, Local Service Delivery, and Governance in Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka PDF Author: Ishtiaq Jamil
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030660184
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 276

Book Description
This book analyzes contemporary issues in governance, policy management, and policy performance both at the central and local levels in Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. The focus is on some central social issues such as empowerment, the inclusion of minorities, institutional trust, policy implementation, and local service delivery. Although these three countries have recently opted for democratic governance, the journey to establish and consolidate democracy as well as enhance governance capacity have been painful and filled with challenges. The chapters in this volume are country specific studies based on empirical data both quantitative and qualitative collected for several years and presented in readable prose. This does not, however, rule out the general applicability of the findings to other contexts within and beyond the borders of these countries. Despite huge differences in South Asia, the policy and governance issues and challenges that are explored, highlighted, and analyzed also have commonalities with other South Asian countries.

Stoner to Seeker: The Photographs

Stoner to Seeker: The Photographs PDF Author: Gordon Schwerzmann
Publisher: Xlibris Corporation
ISBN: 1669847071
Category : Photography
Languages : en
Pages : 165

Book Description
STONER TO SEEKER: VOLUME I: THE PHOTOGRAHS is my impression of two of the most fascinating countries in Asia. Bangladesh is a brand-new country and I was there just a few months after they won their hard fought independence from Pakistan. I have photographed students, small businessmen, fishermen and villagers showing how they realize their hopes and dreams for this verdant paradise. Kathmandu, Nepal is the last stop on the overland Hippie Trail from Europe to Asia. What we found was a medieval country and it is the people, places and way of life of this mystical land that I recorded with my camera. I have documented a time, the 1970s, before the all-pervading Western culture, the Economic Miracle and the geo-political revolutions changed Asia irrevocably. This is my photographic vision of Asia, a bright shining candle before the winds of change extinguished it forever.

Kathmandu Dilemma

Kathmandu Dilemma PDF Author: Ranjit Rae
Publisher:
ISBN: 9780143460152
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
'...unmatched in its meticulous and careful research into the wellsprings of a truly unique relationship between two neighbouring states.' SHYAM SARAN 'Ranjit Rae's portrayal of India-Nepal relations from the Indian perspective is meticulous, nuanced and insightful." S.D. MUNI 'Ranjit Rae breaks down the paradox of India's very intimate yet troubled relationship with Nepal.' C. RAJA MOHAN The first two decades of the new millennium have witnessed a dramatic socio-political transformation of Nepal. A violent Maoist insurgency ended peacefully, a new constitution abolished the monarchy and established a secular federal democratic republic. Nevertheless, political stability and a peace dividend have both remained elusive. Nepal is also buffeted by changing geopolitics, including the US-China contestation for influence and the uneasy relationship between India and China. As a close neighbour, India has been deeply associated with the seminal changes in Nepal, and the bilateral relationship has seen many twists and turns. Partly a memoir, this book examines India's perspective on these developments, in the context of the civilizational and economic underpinnings of the India-Nepal relationship, as well as issues that continue to prevent this relationship from exploiting its full potential. Though there are several Nepalese accounts that deal with this subject, there are few from an Indian point of view. Kathmandu Dilemma fills this gap.
