Revisiting Nehru In Contemporary India

Revisiting Nehru In Contemporary India PDF Author: Baljit Singh
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1000090051
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 308

Book Description
Jawaharlal Nehru being an architect of Indian polity, economy and foreign policy set the ball rolling. However, they have witnessed cataclysmic changes over a period of time. Indian polity has witnessed different waves of reorganisation of states, evolving democracy, spelling out of quasi-federal system and building a more inclusive political nation. Nehru set the agenda of economic development and framed the strategy of development accordingly. In this volume an attempt has made to have a fair understanding about Nehru by placing him in the context in which he worked and by taking into account the challenges that Post-Colonial India was facing during his time. However, the problems faced by the neo-liberal economy, and the challenges confronting Indian polity and foreign policy have again invoked the relevance of Nehruvian philosophy in contemporary India. The contributors to this volume have analysed the diverse aspects of Nehru’s thinking and the policies that flowed from it to understand their relevance in contemporary Indian, Asian and global context. Note: T& F does not sell or distribute the Hardback in India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Nehru, Tibet and China

Nehru, Tibet and China PDF Author: Avtar Singh Bhasin
Publisher: Penguin/Viking
ISBN: 9780670094134
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 368

Book Description
"On 1 October 1949, the People's Republic of China came into being and changed forever the course of Asian history. Power moved from the hands of the nationalist Kuomintang government to the Communist Party of China headed by Mao Tse Tung. All of a sudden, it was not only an assertive China that India had to deal with but also an increasingly complex situation in Tibet which was reeling under pressure from China. Clearly, newly independent India, with Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru at its helm, was navigating very choppy waters. Its relations with China progressively deteriorated, eventually leading to the Indo-China war in 1962. Today, more than six decades after the war, we are still plagued by border disputes with China that seem to routinely grab the headlines. It leads one to question what exactly went on during those initial years of the emergence of a new China"--Publisher's summary.

Nehru's 97 Major Blunders

Nehru's 97 Major Blunders PDF Author: Rajnikant Puranik
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781549539657
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 275

Book Description
This book summarises (and is therefore compact) the select 97 major blunders of Nehru. While all major blunders are not covered, none of the minor blunders are included. Blunders is used in this book as a general term to also include failures, neglect, wrong policies, usurping undeserved posts, etc. There are a sea of books eulogising Nehru, and reader can refer to them. The focus of this book is on Nehru's blunders, and not on his positives. It is not the intention of this book to be critical of Nehru, but historical facts, that have often been distorted or glossed over or suppressed must be known widely, lest the mistakes be repeated. This book is different from my earlier voluminous book "Foundations of Misery: Blunders of the Nehruvian Era" (available on Amazon both in the digital and in paperback edition) which does not cover as many blunders as this book does, nor lists them systematically and exhaustively; but which deals in detail with the background, history and particulars of the Integration of the Indian States; Kashmir: BCE to 1950s; Tibet: Erasing a Nation; Himalayan Misadventure (India-China War); The Sinhala & the Tamils (On Sri-Lankan Tamil Problem); India's Self-Inflicted Poverty; Socialism, Babudom & Corruption; Being Foreign to Foreign Policy (Disastrous Policies on External Affairs); Ill-informed Internal Policies; Mental & Cultural Slavery; Distortion of History & Cultural Heritage; Dynacracy (Dynastic Democracy), and so on.This book has a wider coverage compared to the above, but does not deal in the background, history and details like the above does. Many aspects which you would find in this book you would not find in the book above, and vice versa.

Dynamics of Tamil Nadu Politics in Sri Lankan Ethnicity

Dynamics of Tamil Nadu Politics in Sri Lankan Ethnicity PDF Author: G. Palanithurai
Publisher: Northern Book Centre
ISBN: 9788172110406
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 132

Book Description
Tamil Nadu has been playing its legitimate role in the inter-government relationship on the Tamil issues. The magnitude of the state politics in the problems of Sri Lankan Tamils has reached its Zenith during the past one decade as a result of the eruption of ethnic violence in Sri Lanka. Since Tamil Polity has been fully dominated by ethnic political parts, each one has been trying its level best to project itself as the Vanguard of Tamil Nationalism. This book traces the approaches of the political parties and especially ethnic political parties towards the Sri Lankan Tamil issues. It also analyses to what extent the pressure extended by the ethnic political parties has been taken into account in foreign policy making of Indian Government during different periods. Significantly this work touches a very important aspect that to what extent the support extended by the political parties to help themselves to establish firm roots in provincial polity. This study sheds light on the ambiguous stand of the political parties in Tamil Nadu over this issue which ultimately has weakened the cause of the Tamils and mislead the Indian Government which adopted a tough stand without heeding to the plea of the majority of the Sri Lankan Tamils.
