How People Negotiate

How People Negotiate PDF Author: Guy Olivier Faure
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9400709897
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 194

Book Description
How People Negotiate brings together a set of negotiation stories, accompanied by an integrative overview. This volume provides cases and theoretical elaboration and includes a comprehensive overview of research on negotiation. Some negotiation stories are exotic and strange: they come from a large number of countries, ranging from China, to African Countries, to the Ancient Middle East. Others are drawn from Western settings such as France, Germany, and USA. The negotiations described take various forms: negotiating with oneself, negotiating one's own way through bicycle traffic or animals appearing to negotiate with each other. The stories begin with Abraham negotiating with the Lord about the fate of Sodom, the first-ever recorded account of negotiations. The negotiations in this volume present something new and unusual. They are catchy, intriguing, exciting, intellectually challenging and original. They give us a new perspective on negotiating, tell us something about the world we live in, and - by means of a worthwhile detour - they teach us about ourselves.

The Exotic Other and Negotiation of Tibetan Self

The Exotic Other and Negotiation of Tibetan Self PDF Author: Kamila Hladíková
Publisher: Univerzita Palackého v Olomouci
ISBN: 8024439085
Category : Literary Collections
Languages : en
Pages : 281

Book Description
This study examines various representations of Tibet in Tibetan and Chinese fiction from the 1980s. With its analysis of some of the first Tibetan short stories published approximately a decade after the end of the Cultural Revolution it greatly contributes to the scholarly research of the rise of modern Tibetan literature. The image of Tibet that appears in the works of Tibetan authors is there compared with the Chinese representations of Tibet from the same period. The analysis is informed by postcolonial theories of literature and is focused mainly on the stereotypes that appear in representation of Tibet both in China and in the west. The primary aim of this study is to examine the influence of such stereotypes on Tibetan literary negoitations of their own newly reshaped identity.

Negotiating the Holistic Turn

Negotiating the Holistic Turn PDF Author: Judith Fadlon
Publisher: State University of New York Press
ISBN: 0791483940
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 169

Book Description
Alternative medicine, once an anti-establishment outsider, has enjoyed such growing popularity in recent years that it has generated a new medical industry, complete with adherents, practitioners, researchers, lobbyists, and regulations. As it has grown, alternative medicine has gradually assumed a different position in the provision of health care. Combining ethnographic study with quantitative data, Judith Fadlon explains the popularity of alternative medicine, as well as the ease with which individuals now move between conventional and alternative medicine and between different alternative modalities. She concludes that alternative medicine has been undergoing domestication, a process by which the foreign is rendered familiar. Although the focus of the study is urban Israel, it is argued that domestication is a major force at work in a number of Western countries.
