Mostyn Embrey Syndrome: Awareness and Ethics of Naming Syndromes

Mostyn Embrey Syndrome: Awareness and Ethics of Naming Syndromes PDF Author: Aamir Al-Mosawi
Publisher:
ISBN: 9783659837227
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 64

Book Description
Mostyn Embrey syndrome is a rare disorder associated with unilateral renal agenesis and malformations of the female reproductive tract. Delayed diagnosis is associated with serious diagnostic difficulties that may lead to inappropriate management including harmful surgery. The aim of this paper is to describe the first case of this rare syndrome in Iraq which was originally reported in 2016, and to provide an overview of the previously reported cases. Less than 500 cases of the classical Mostyn Embrey syndrome (associated with triad of uterus didelphys. Hemi-vaginal obstruction and ipsilateral renal agenesis) have been reported in the literature during the previous 100 years, and 560 cases of the classical Mostyn Embrey syndrome and its variants have reported in the literature during the previous 100 years. The first case of Mostyn Embrey syndrome is Iraq was the case number 561, and the second in Ethnic Arab. This case was the first case of Mostyn Embrey syndrome to have family history of incomplete variant syndrome in a cousin.

Hidden Hunger

Hidden Hunger PDF Author: H.K. Biesalski
Publisher: Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers
ISBN: 3318056855
Category : Health & Fitness
Languages : en
Pages : 254

Book Description
Malnutrition caused by deficiencies of vitamins and minerals - also called hidden hunger - impairs both the intellectual and physical development of a child. Due to the absence of clinical symptoms and assessments, no intervention can be staged. The tragedy is that this, in turn, decreases the child’s chance to escape from poverty. This book looks at malnutrition in high-income countries, the nutrition transition and nutritional deficiencies in low-income countries, consequences of hidden hunger, and interventions to improve nutrition security. Written by leading experts in the field, it clearly stresses that national governments and international organizations must make malnutrition one of their top priorities in order to provide children with optimal conditions for a healthy future.

Molecular Chaperones in Health and Disease

Molecular Chaperones in Health and Disease PDF Author: Matthias Gaestel
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9783540258759
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 464

Book Description
Molecular chaperones are involved in a wide variety of essential cellular processes in living cells. A subset of molecular chaperones have been initially described as heat shock proteins protecting cells from stress damage by keeping cellular proteins in a folding competent state and preventing them from irreversible aggregation. Later it became obvious that molecular chaperones are also expressed constitutively in the cell and are involved in complex processes such as protein synthesis, intracellular protein transport, post-translational modification and secretion of proteins as well as receptor signalling. Hence, it is not surprising that molecular chaperones are implicated in the pathogenesis of many relevant diseases and could be regarded as potential pharmacological targets. Starting with the analysis of the mode of action of chaperones at the molecular, cellular and organismic level, this book will then describe specific aspects where modulation of chaperone action could be of pharmacological and therapeutic interest.

Toxicity Assessment

Toxicity Assessment PDF Author: Carlos M. Palmeira
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781071610916
Category : Medicine
Languages : en
Pages : 266

Given the ever-increasing exposure to different compounds and their effects on population health, the assessment of multiple endpoints is of utmost importance for better risk assessment, and this collection addresses that need. Written for the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step, readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Authoritative and practical, Toxicity Assessment: Methods and Protocols aims to serve researchers in this vast field of science as they seek to better understand the mechanisms of action of different xenobiotics.
