Pay Equity, a New Approach to a Fundamental Right

Pay Equity, a New Approach to a Fundamental Right PDF Author: Canada. Pay Equity Task Force
Publisher: Canadian Government Publishing
ISBN:
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 596

Book Description
This is the report of a task force whose basic objective was to conduct a comprehensive review of the current equal pay provisions of the Canadian Human Rights Act, section 11, as well as the Equal Wages Guidelines of 1986. Work of the task force included consultations, public hearings, roundtables, private meetings, research, and a symposium to provide information about the wide range of issues relevant to a review of pay equity legislation. The first four chapters review wage inequalities in Canada & within designated groups in the labour market, the Canadian legislative response to wage inequality, the current pay equity model and its limitations, and proactive models & legislation in the public sectors of various provinces. Chapter 5 outlines a model that the task force recommends to replace the current legislation. Subsequent chapters address issues which arise in connection with this proposed model, including the scope of application, the elements of a pay equity plan, employee participation, predominance of certain groups in job classes, evaluating gender-predominant job classes, estimating & correcting wage gaps, allowable exemptions, maintenance of pay equity, enforcement, timelines & transition to new legislation, pay equity and collective bargaining, and the role of oversight agencies. Recommendations made throughout the report are also listed at the end. Appendices include excerpts from relevant legislation.

Promoting Stability and Development in Africa

Promoting Stability and Development in Africa PDF Author: Marta Martinelli
Publisher: Edizioni Nuova Cultura
ISBN: 8868125951
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 208

Book Description
Africa is experiencing one of the greatest transformations of its history. Today’s Sub-Saharan Africa is still marked by enduring instability, mass migrations and crises, but at the same time it is also characterised by positive developments including economic growth and regional integration. This publication sheds light on these changes from three perspectives: economic policies and sustainable development; good governance and democracy; peace and security. Research in relevant regions in Sub-Saharan Africa and key countries (Ethiopia, Mozambique, Nigeria and South Africa) has been conducted by African and European experts with the aim of assessing the role of the private sector and determining the partner-ship opportunities that could potentially be developed with the public sector. A series of policy recommendations are offered to the European Union on how to tackle these opportunities in cooperation with old and new actors.

Child Custody, Law, and Women's Work

Child Custody, Law, and Women's Work PDF Author: Susan B. Boyd
Publisher: Don Mills, Ont. : Oxford University Press Canada
ISBN: 9780195409185
Category : Custody of children
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
Reform of child custody law has been a controversial topic in Canada since the mid-1980s. Within her book Susan Boyd argues that debates over child custody issues are rooted in gender-based dynamics within the family and society. She examines how custody law has evolved over the past twocenturies, with a focus on the relationship between the law and gender relations-in particular, the power relations between women and men in the heterosexual family; the dominant ideologies about motherhood, fatherhood, and family; and the differential value attributed to men's and women's work, inboth private and public spheres. Overall, this essential text questions the extent to which reform of child custody law on its own can lead to effective social transformation of parenting.
