Bioremediation of Petroleum Contaminated Sites
Author: RiseR-RobeRts
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9780873718325
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 496
Book Description
Bioremediation of Petroleum Contaminated Sites provides important background information on the major aspects of technologies and related research dealing with the use of biodegradation for treating environmental contamination by toxic organic substances. The book can be used as a broad reference base for developing programs for in situ biorestoration of fuel contaminated soil and groundwater. A detailed appendix includes supplementary technical information for readers needing in-depth information. Bioremediation of Petroleum Contaminated Sites is an excellent reference for managers, consultants, regulators, hazardous waste professionals, contractors, students, and environmental researchers.

Investigation of Enhanced in Situ Bioremediation at a Petroleum Contamination Site
In-situ Bioremediation of Contaminated Subsurface Media
Biogeochemical Factors Affecting Microbial Transformation of Co-Occurring Contaminants in Sediments from a Saltmarsh Superfund Site

Pages : 5
Book Description
A common difficulty associated with devising bioremediation strategies for many contaminated sites is the co-occurrence of several classes of toxic chemicals. In the case where mixed contaminants are present, the likelihood of interactions between candidate transformation pathways is high and greatly complicates remediation processes. Because these pathways are believed to involve complex microbial consortia, this program seeks to investigate the linkages among biogeochemical parameters, microbial activity, microbial diversity and community structure, as they apply to the transformation of co- occurring contaminants. It is hypothesized that a fundamental understanding of these linkages will lead to the development of enhanced in situ remediation strategies.

Book Description
The symposium included 600 presentations in 50 sessions on bioremediation and supporting technologies used for a wide range of contaminants already in, or poised to invade, soil, groundwater, and sediment. Three hundred and fifty-two papers were selected and organized into ten volumes. Volume five's articles address the use of trees and wetland flora to remediate sites contaminated with hydrocarbons, chlorinated compounds, TNT, heavy metals, and other substances. Articles average eight pages, and contain abstracts and references. Annotation copyrighted by Book News Inc., Portland, OR.
