The National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) is a federal government initiative designed to collect and make available to the public, on a yearly basis, comprehensive national data on releases to air, water and land and transfers in waste of specified substances. The inventory provides information from all Canadian sectors: industrial, government, commercial and others. Under the authority of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, owners or operators of facilities that manufacture, process or otherwise use one or more of the specified substances under prescribed conditions are required to report to the NPRI. This document enables facility owners or operators to review the NPRI reporting criteria and determine if they are required to report the NPRI for the current year.
