"Through the gospels, and in particular through Luke's gospel and Acts, we can see the rise of a new kingdom and a new community that equally includes all -- rich and poor, Jews and Gentiles, masters and slaves, men and women. Luke paints this picture throughout his gospel and portrays how women were both affected by and given a role to play in the coming of the kingdom. For my project I chose three texts in the gospel of Luke that mirror the inclusion of women in the story of the in-breaking of the kingdom. The three texts reflect the progression of the story in the gospel of Luke and Christ's life on earth: the beginning (The Annunciation, Luke 1:26-38), the middle (Christ in the House of Mary and Martha, Luke 10:38-41), and the end of the gospel narrative (the three women at the tomb, Luke 24:1-8). Furthermore, these passages were chosen because of the presentation of the narrative: each of the passages has a male pairing (Luke 1:5-25; 10:25-37; 24:9-12), which is a typical feature of Luke; and each of the passages has only a few protagonists, which unites the visual presentation.
