Book Description
It’s not an addiction, it’s a passion. I love collecting toys. Okay, yeah, fine, maybe a little bit of an addiction. We’ll let you decide. Journey with me as we take a trip back to 2017. The year my beloved WWF Hasbro figures returned to the shelves as WWE Retros. The year Mega Construx added Masters Of The Universe to their line of mini figures. The year I bought a collection of the 2011 Thundercats and found a bag of He-Man figures at a thrift store in the mountains of New Hampshire. While traveling New England for my hiking guides, I stopped at every toy store, flea market and thrift store I came across. Not to mention my parents’ shed and attic, always good places for old treasures. And of course, good old eBay. The cover says it all, you know what we’re hunting down. This isn’t superheroes and Star Wars, I’m looking for those forgotten lines. And a few not so forgotten. We’re talking Dino-Riders and Super Naturals. Wrestling and MOTU. GI Joes, Turtles, the ninja kind, not the ones you have to brake for in the road, Transformers and even, ugh, I know people hate it but I’m gonna say it anyway, Go-Bots. And Thundercats, everyone loves them. Does that make up for it? It was a good year for toy hunting, but not nearly as good as the years that fell around it. Since this book’s a little short, we’re going to give it away for free, just pretend it’s one of those mini comics that came with 80’s action figures. But don’t let your kids read it, some of the humor may be a little inappropriate. They can enjoy the pictures though, just like I did with the actual mini comics that came with my figures when I was a kid. Let’s take a look at my year collecting toys in 2017.

Collecting Contemporary Toys for Fun

Collecting Contemporary Toys for Fun PDF Author: Marshall Mozingo
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781613181706
Category : Antiques & Collectibles
Languages : en
Pages : 48

Book Description
Why collect toys? After all, there are thousands of different types of things that people collect for either investment purposes or just for enjoyment. Now, personally I haven't seen very many people do well in long term investments in collectibles of any kind. (Even though I have included in this book some of the attributes that tend to make toys more or less desirable and collectible.) So, I think that the major reason for any kind of collection or hobby is personal enjoyment, and by extension, sharing this enjoyment with other people, possibly your children or grandchildren. And if the best reason to collect anything is for enjoyment, or simply put, to have fun, then toy collecting, particularly collecting modern or contemporary toys, is a great hobby. I wrote this book because in 40 years of toy collecting it has never failed to entertain me, grab my imagination, or cheer me up on gloomy days. I'm hoping to pass on that sense of wonder, excitement, and fun to everyone who reads it. Further, a fun, interesting collection of modern toys can be achieved over time on almost any budget. Toys are ideal as conversation starters in the modern home. They can be displayed in unusual and creative ways, using otherwise empty or dead space. From an interior design perspective, toys have several traits to recommend them, also to be discussed in the book. They remain a timeless source of fun, and through the fun of collecting children and adults can learn, or be reinforced in, a variety of life skills including budgeting, honesty, and sustainability. I hope you'll find the ideas and commentary in this book as much fun to read and share as I did to write.

The author presents over 650 color photographs organized chronologically, with informative captions and realistic prices to help collectors of all types of toys identify their treasures. The book groups the toys by useful 'double decades' which allows collectors to understand how material of manufacture and design of the toy can help date it. Britains Civilian Toy Figures

Britains Civilian Toy Figures PDF Author: Norman Joplin
Publisher: Schiffer Pub Limited
ISBN: 9780764315206
Category : Antiques & Collectibles
Languages : en
Pages : 255

Book Description
An extensive and in-depth study of the non-military and civilian toy figures made by Britains, covering the early mechanical toys of the 1880s through to the final hollow cast toys from 1966. During the inter-war period, the British toy-buying public rejected war-like/military toys, providing Britains with the opportunity to introduce their Farm, Zoo and Circus lines -- all of which in some way reflected the social history of the time in the United Kingdom. Prolific in their output, Britains were quick to realise the potential of the huge U.S. market and exported vast numbers of toys via a number of importers in the eastern and mid-western states. Included are 970 colour photographs of toys including Miniature Garden, Civilian Vehicles, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, Salvation Army and Cowboys and Indians, etc., along with British Royalty figures. Together with Football/Soccer and Famous Horse Racing Colors and their Jockeys, this book provides colourful insight into the hobby of collecting these hollow cast lead toys. A guide to current values is included in the captions.
