Book Description
As a boy, being reared in a highly religious atmosphere, the idea of a man living on earth two thousand years ago "going about doing good," "giving sight to the blind," "healing the sick," and, eventually, "dying for our sins" was indeed perplexing in light of the fact that there was no living being to whom I could relate to Jesus Christ. This confusing phenomenon became more chaotic in my mind as I grew older and realized that individuals who claimed to be Jesus's "prophets" were seemingly His opposite-driving luxury cars, preaching against welfare handouts, condemning rather than forgiving those who found themselves "taking the wrong path." "If Jesus lived today," I meagerly reasoned, "would He drive luxury cars? Would He own several Rolls Royces? Would He condemn those who did not contribute money to the 'cause of the kingdom?' Would He go on television and radio condemning abortion? What would a present-day Jesus really be like?" Over a period of many years, I jotted down thoughts, taped ideas, took notes of sermons, and studied the Gospels hoping to someday coordinate all of these into a novel depicting a present-day Jesus Christ. The present book is the result of that.

Emmanuel's Dream: The True Story of Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah

Emmanuel's Dream: The True Story of Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah PDF Author: Laurie Ann Thompson
Publisher: Schwartz & Wade
ISBN: 0449817466
Category : Juvenile Nonfiction
Languages : en
Pages : 41

Book Description
Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah's inspiring true story—which was turned into a film, Emmanuel's Gift, narrated by Oprah Winfrey—is nothing short of remarkable. Born in Ghana, West Africa, with one deformed leg, he was dismissed by most people—but not by his mother, who taught him to reach for his dreams. As a boy, Emmanuel hopped to school more than two miles each way, learned to play soccer, left home at age thirteen to provide for his family, and, eventually, became a cyclist. He rode an astonishing four hundred miles across Ghana in 2001, spreading his powerful message: disability is not inability. Today, Emmanuel continues to work on behalf of the disabled. Thompson's lyrical prose and Qualls's bold collage illustrations offer a powerful celebration of triumphing over adversity. Includes an author's note with more information about Emmanuel's charity.

He is taken in the dead of night to an orphanage, the Villa Jaune, where the benign and enigmatic Father Pons presides over a motley assortment of children. With the ever-present threat of the Gestapo growing closer, Joseph learns that the secret of survival is to conceal his Jewish heritage. Soon Joseph also discovers that Father Pons has a secret of his own: he is risking his life not only for the boys in his care, but for the Jewish faith itself. Sensitive, funny and deeply humane, Noah's Child is a simple fable that reveals the complexities of faith, bravery and the human condition.

Dreaming in a Nightmare

Dreaming in a Nightmare PDF Author: Jeremiah Emmanuel
Publisher: National Geographic Books
ISBN: 1529118611
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
A moving and powerful account of the problems faced by a new generation, from crime to poverty to an increasingly divided society, from an extraordinarily accomplished young activist and entrepreneur. My name is Jeremiah Emmanuel. I'm twenty years old. I'm an activist, an entrepreneur, a former deputy young mayor of Lambeth and member of the UK Youth Parliament. I wanted to change the world, but the world I was born into changed me first. Raised in south London, I lived in an area where crime and poverty were everywhere and opportunities to escape were rare. Violence was accepted, prison was expected. Your best friend might vanish overnight, never to be seen again. That was the world I knew; the only one I thought was possible for people like me. But somehow, as I got older, I found my way to a different world: a place where people listened to you, where opinions were heard, where doors were opened, where there were opportunities around every corner. Everything had stayed the same and everything had changed. This is the story of how I did it, the people who helped me get there, and the huge hurdles I - and my entire generation - have to learn to face and overcome. It's the story of how to move forward in a world that's holding you back.

Your God is Too Glorious

Your God is Too Glorious PDF Author: Chad Bird
Publisher: New Reformation Publications
ISBN: 1948969815
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 193

Book Description
Most of us are regular people who have good days and bad days. Our lives are radically ordinary and unexciting. That means they're the kind of lives God gets excited about. While the world worships beauty and power and wealth, God hides his glory in the simple, the mundane, the foolish, working in unawesome people, things, and places. In our day of celebrity worship and online posturing, this is a refreshing, even transformative way of understanding God and our place in his creation. It urges us to treasure a life of simplicity, to love those whom the world passes by, to work for God's glory rather than our own. And it demonstrates that God has always been the Lord of the cross--a Savior who hides his grace in unattractive, inglorious places.Your God Is Too Glorious reminds readers that while a quiet life may look unimpressive to the world, it's the regular, everyday people that God tends to use to do his most important work.
