Planning and Drafting Basics Under the New Massachusetts Uniform Probate Code

Planning and Drafting Basics Under the New Massachusetts Uniform Probate Code PDF Author: Kent D. Schenkel
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
On January 15, 2009, Massachusetts enacted the Massachusetts Uniform Probate Code (“MUPC”). While a few provisions of the new law became effective July 1, 2009, most were initially deferred until July 1, 2011. These provisions were subsequently deferred until January 2, 2012, and then deferred again until March 31, 2012. This paper was published before the March 31 deferral. The new law brings major changes to Massachusetts estate planning and estate administration. This article highlights and explains some of the changes wrought by MUPC that are likely to affect typical will and trust drafting and the estate planning practice in general. It includes an exploration of many of those aspects of the law that concern the ever-growing area of will substitutes, such as beneficiary designations and joint bank and brokerage accounts. Except in cases where it might have a particular effect on the planning process, this article does not attempt to cover the significant changes MUPC makes to probate and other administration of estates.

Barriers Broken

Barriers Broken PDF Author: Venkatesh B Athreya
Publisher: SAGE Publications Pvt. Limited
ISBN:
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 346

Book Description
The result of an intensive study, Barriers Broken represents more than a systematic comparison of two major agrarian ecotypes. Is class structure associated with these ecotypes? Are variations of production ecologically grounded? How do these variations affect other levels of social formation--especially ideological and political venues? In addition to posing these questions, the authors explore issues such as: changes in the relation of production due to land reforms; patterns of generational mobility; land rent barriers to capitalist development; and consequences of credit capital for usury. By developing a quantitative methodology for studying agrarian class relations and linking an ecological analysis to class relations, technology, and patterns of agrarian change, Barriers Broken sheds new light on the current development in Third World countries. This unique volume will be of interest to students and professors in agriculture, economics, sociology, social anthropology, political science, and history. "There is something for everyone in this study. . .will enliven the areas of class analysis, research methodology, and ecological and social analysis of agrarian change." --Contemporary Sociology "In Barriers Broken, Athreya, Djurfeldt, and Lindberg provide just the kind of detailed analysis needed to refine the widely used but crude typologies current to the development literature. . . . Throughout these chapters, the authors reveal many interesting and provocative findings and offer clues and insights into the socioeconomic dynamics of rural production. . . . As a case study and research monograph, Barriers Broken is a significant contribution to the rural-development literature and will prove valuable to anyone interested in rural social relations and methods of agricultural production." --Social Forces

Four Women (Quattro Donne)

Four Women (Quattro Donne) PDF Author: Bennett R. Molinari

ISBN: 9781483493916
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
Four Women is a historical fiction taking place in Boston's colorful North End, "Little Italy" in the summer of 1949, a time when families lived together in a close-knit community, slightly larger than one square mile. Four Women touches on two cultures, the Italian world with its customs and traditions and what was termed the American world existing just beyond its boundaries, focusing on the spontaneity that so often arose through their interaction. Four Women is about family bonds and the central place the Church played in establishing worship, continuity, community and a feeling of safe harbor. This is the story of Lucia, matriarch of her family, widowed for 9 years, and her intense relationship with her three daughters: Angie, Stella and Carmela. Into this mix arises the unexpected love story of Pietro, the son of Velia Conte, a Roman noble woman, and Gerardo Petruzelli, a successful Lawyer, brother of Lucia.

The Elephant and the Lotus

The Elephant and the Lotus PDF Author: Philippe Truong
Publisher: MFA Publications
ISBN:
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 280

Book Description
"The focus of conflict from the colonial era to the cold war, Vietnam at long last is emerging as a global force in trade and culture. Likewise its ceramics tradition, a fusion of eclectic influences and unique forms and forces, is exciting the imagination and delighting the senses of a widening circle of collectors and connoisseurs. The Elephant and the Lotus explores this vital tradition by highlighting over two hundred objects in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Ranging from earthy and practical stoneware produced two millennia ago under Chinese dominion, to the spectacularly decorated ewers, bowls, and limepots created at the pinnacle of Vietnamese civilization a thousand years later, the wares presented here reflect the natural wonders of Vietnam and the ingenuity of its ceramists. With an introduction by John Stevenson that places ceramics at the intersection of artistic expression and national identity, and extensive presentations by renowned authority Philippe Truong, this is both the first complete publication of a remarkable collection and an indispensable introduction to a rapidly growing field in the Asian decorative arts."--Jacket.
