ISBN: 9780792357766
Category : Computers

Pages : 444

Book Description
The huge bandwidth of optical fiber was recognized back in the 1970s during the early development of fiber optics technology. For the last two decades, the capacity of experimental and deployed systems has been increasing at a rate of 100-fold each decade - a rate exceeding the increase of integrated circuit speeds. Today, optical communication in the public communication networks has developed from the status of a curiosity into being the dominant technology. Various great challenges arising from the deployment of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) have attracted much effort from many researchers. Indeed, optical networking has been a fertile ground for both theoretical research and experimental studies. This monograph presents contributions from the author's past and ongoing research in the field of optical networking. The ideas presented focus more on graph-theoretical and algorithmic aspects of optical networks. Although this book is limited to the author's own research, there are many outstanding achievements made by other individuals which are cited throughout. Without the inspiration of their efforts, this monograph would never have been possible. Audience: Research workers and professionals from mathematics, computer science, and engineering with an interest in algorithms, graph theory, telecommunications, networking and optical devices.

SOFSEM 2001: Theory and Practice of Informatics

SOFSEM 2001: Theory and Practice of Informatics PDF Author: Leszek Pacholski
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3540456279
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 357

Book Description
SOFSEM 2001, the International Conference on Current Trends in Theory and Practice of Informatics, was held on November 24 – December 1, 2001 in the ? well-known spa Pie?stany, Slovak Republic. This was the 28th annual conference in the SOFSEM series organized either in the Slovak or the Czech Republic. SOFSEM has a well-established tradition. Currently it is a broad, multid- ciplinary conference, devoted to the theory and practice of software systems. Its aim is to foster cooperation among professionals from academia and industry working in various areas of informatics. The scienti?c program of SOFSEM consists of invited talks, which determine the topics of the conference, and short contributed talks presenting original - sults. The topics of the invited talks are chosen so as to cover the whole range from theory to practice and to bring interesting research areas to the attention of conference participants. For the year 2001, the following three directions were chosen for presentation by the SOFSEM Steering Committee: – Trends in Informatics – Enabling Technologies for Global Computing – Practical Systems Engineering and Applications The above directions were covered through 12 invited talks presented by pro- nent researchers. There were 18 contributed talks, selected by the international Program Committee from among 46 submitted papers. The conference was also accompanied by workshops on Electronic Commerce Systems (coordinated by H. D. Zimmermann) and Soft Computing (coordinated by P. H ́ajek).

Optical WDM Networks

Optical WDM Networks PDF Author: Krishna M. Sivalingam
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 0306470217
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 351

Book Description
Optical WDM networking technology is spearheading a bandwidth revolution in the networking infrastructure being developed for the next generation Internet. Rapid advances in optical components have enabled the transition from point-to-point WDM links to all-optical networking. Optical WDM Networks: Principles and Practice presents some of the most important challenges facing the optical networking community, along with some suggested solutions. Earlier textbooks in optical networking have a narrower perspective, and rapidly advancing research has created the need for fresh and current information on problems and issues in the field. The volume editors and contributing authors have endeavoured to capture a substantial subset of the key problems and known solutions to these problems. All of the chapters are original contributions from leading international researchers. The chapters address a wide variety of topics, including the state of the art in WDM technology, physical components that make up WDM fiber-optic networks, medium access protocols, wavelength routed networks, optical access networks, network management, and performance evaluation of wavelength routing networks. The chapters also survey critical points in past research and tackle more recent problems. Practitioners and network product engineers interested in current state-of-the-art information beyond textbook-type coverage, and graduate students commencing research in this area, will appreciate the concise - and pertinent - information presented herein.

ISBN: 9780821870990
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 184

Book Description
This volume presents the proceedings from the Mid-Atlantic Mathematical Logic Seminar (MAMLS) conference held in honor of Andras Hajnal at the DIMACS Center, Rutgers University (New Brunswick, NJ). Articles include both surveys and high-level research papers written by internationally recognized experts in the field of set theory. Many of the current active areas of set theory are represented in this volume. It includes research papers on combinatorial set theory, set theoretictopology, descriptive set theory, and set theoretic algebra. There are valuable surveys on combinatorial set theory, fragments of the proper forcing axiom, and the reflection properties of stationary sets. The book also includes an exposition of the ergodic theory of lattices in higher rank semisimpleLie groups-essential reading for anyone who wishes to understand much of the recent work on countable Borel equivalence relations.
