Calculations to Support JET Neutron Yield Calibration

Calculations to Support JET Neutron Yield Calibration PDF Author: Snoj. L.
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Neutron counters
Languages : en
Pages : 12

Book Description
"Neutron yield measurements are the basis for the determination of the absolute fusion reaction rate and the operational monitoring with respect to the neutron budget during any campaign for JET, the Joint European Torus. After the 2010 changes of the JET plasma-facing materials (Carbon wall to ITER-Like Wall transition), confirmation of the neutron yield calibration will be ensured by direct measurements using a calibrated 252Cf neutron source deployed inside the JET vacuum vessel. In order to thoroughly understand the transport of neutrons from the vacuum vessel to the fission chamber detectors mounted outside the vessel on the transformer limbs and thus to computationally support the JET neutron calibrations project, we developed a simple but quick-running computational model of the JET tokamak for performing Monte Carlo neutron transport calculations."--Abstract.

Activation Analysis Handbook

Activation Analysis Handbook PDF Author: R Koch
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0323159656
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 230

Book Description
Activation Analysis Handbook focuses on the importance of activation analysis in the examination of trace elements in materials. The book contains examples of activation analysis techniques and application of these techniques to provide solutions to problems in various scientific disciplines. Divided into four chapters, the book starts by giving an outline of the history and growth of activation analysis, including the general technique involved. The discussions proceed by taking into consideration the theoretical aspects of activation analysis, giving emphasis to basic concepts, sources of nuclear data and experimental methods, and selection of activation reactions. The book also considers the experimental methods in activation analysis. Other topics discussed are irradiation facilities; the preparation and encapsulation of samples; irradiations; and post-irradiation assays. The last part deals with the tabulation of elements and their corresponding atomic numbers; the key to tabulation; and a tabulation of nuclear data and experimental methods for activation analysis. The text is a good source of data for readers who are interested in activation analysis.

Plastic Scintillators

Plastic Scintillators PDF Author: Matthieu Hamel
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030734889
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 647

Book Description
This book introduces the physics and chemistry of plastic scintillators (fluorescent polymers) that are able to emit light when exposed to ionizing radiation, discussing their chemical modification in the early 1950s and 1960s, as well as the renewed upsurge in interest in the 21st century. The book presents contributions from various researchers on broad aspects of plastic scintillators, from physics, chemistry, materials science and applications, covering topics such as the chemical nature of the polymer and/or the fluorophores, modification of the photophysical properties (decay time, emission wavelength) and loading of additives to make the material more sensitive to, e.g., fast neutrons, thermal neutrons or gamma rays. It also describes the benefits of recent technological advances for plastic scintillators, such as nanomaterials and quantum dots, which allow features that were previously not achievable with regular organic molecules or organometallics.
